ok i've been playing this for the last week or so, so its early days but i'll give some more info on the game.

And to add to Fred_Bob's patch link i found the one that Eidos still have on their site here <a href="http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/CustomerSupport/FaqSearchResults.jsp?problemType=13&searchText=&game=60&platform=3" target="_blank">http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/Cus...e=60&platform=3</a>
Still it is worth noting that even with the latest patch the game has its odd momments of frustration.
The system i'm running it on is:
P166
48MB ram
2mb video card
Win98se
I find with many older titles it is best to use older hardware, this quite often solves many of the problems you get otherwise.
I've had two crashes so far, and noticed that the land battles moved very slowly(even for a P166!). A quick read through the FAQ mentioned something about graphic card settings and crashing - so i followed the advice and in my card properties window i turned the graphics card slider from 'full' two notches down but not completely to 'none'.
Since then i've noticed a marked improvement in the speed of landbattles, and best of all no crashes since <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

The game itself is full of pirate flavour, from the things you get to do in game to all the sound effects and amusing voice acting that when it isnt annoying the hell out of you, is full of salty seadog pirate goodness.
Its basically a complicated version of Sids origonal Pirates! game.
But its not as easy to play or get into - you have to really spend time with it and get to learn the interface which is rather fiddly and buggy in places(like in the Dock screen when loading your ships with goods!)
Still so far i'm having a blast and starting from the early period of 1625 its proving to be very hard as Spain , your main source of pirate income, are the only real power in the caribbean. Hopefully i can survive and keep going for the 80 odd years the game covers! Luckily i love a good challange.
I'll post more info that might help people with problems as i get to grips with the game, this is quite an epic game so i'll need to have a good go at it first.
