Crash with build 14 alpha 7 + fix

darkevil

Sailor
I can play with the game but about 75 % of the times, when i go to the sea (from leaving an island or in encounter of ships) the game crash in unexpected way.

I thinks it's due to an inapropriate model of ship missing or corrupted. I have seen i one system.lof file those lines:

WARNING!!! Missing INIT message to ROPE - bad ship model

And after verification, i don't have those files in :resource\models\ships\

I also obtain in one of the rare error.log file i had the following error:
[codebox]RUNTIME ERROR - file: seadogs.c; line: 759
Save - ARef to non existing attributes branch[/codebox]

Even after setting debuginfo, i have only few times "error.log" file and i always having "system.log" and compile.log" files.

I become tired of those crash cause i can play to the game...
Please Help me...

This is exactly the problem I have, crash when exiting to sea, intermittent error logs.
This is defenately a big bug with B14a7. Check your street mechents, its likely the have no stock just before the crash.

ahoy there matey, welcome to the club... I can tell you that youre not the only one who is getting such crashes... I too, experience them regularly, but alas my knowledge about the workings of it all is very small, so I cannot give any real answers, other than youre not alone

Damned! It's good to see that i not the only one to have that problems...

I hesitate before posting that on the forum because i think i will bother you with my troubles...
Don't think i'am enjoying your problems guys, i have the same. :)

There definitively have some problems with build 14 alpha 7.

Have you got any HeavyWarship in your ships models?
It seems that the game crash because it can't find or load some ships model.

I attempted a fix for this bug (actually I just took the HeavyFrigate - so it is a temporary fix until the final model is provided). You find a link in <!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro--><a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10556" target="_blank">this thread</a><!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->

Just extract to your POTC root folder.

I cannot test if the fix works, but if you could check with a save game and give to me some feedback it would be nice.

Cheers,
Sulan

I have followed your instruction and i add those files into my directory.
But those crashes still exist! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

The crash appends when i'am exiting worlmap when encountering others ships or island to sea (they always have a bunch of ships surrounding islands).

Only two log files still exist; system.log and compile.log...
And, they are not explicit for me... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

The problem seems to be more difficult than thought. I have now traced it down to a Sendmessage call in AIShip.c ... will investigate further.

I can't help since i don't known C and C++...
I just beginning to learn by myself (and some books) the very first step of C.

I hope i will learn as fast i can to be helpful for you and to help you in the futur.

I hope you can narrow the bug down and resolve it...
Im stay in your disposal to help you dig bugs and try your fixes...

Cheers

Alpha 7 for me just says abnormal error cant find engine.exe even though i did everything it said to do any idea?

you know, you could also just stick to the topic you posted. it isn't nessesary to post the same question all over the forum.
