WIP Centurion

As far as I know it was the only British ship built with a poop royal deck.

so I finished the path, I just need to put the parts into appropriate files and export them to .gm:keith I did experience a transparency bug when I combined 2 objects with the same texture, and they both became transparent, even though there was no transparency in the texture sttings. these sorts of things don't carry over to the game, do they?
Hylie, if I tell you what textures to assign where, you can do that right? There are no cannon locators or walk file yet, but can you start on the rigging without them? sorry for being so clueless about this, I'm just starting to learn about this stage of getting ships ingame.:facepalm

I guess if that's the same effect as the normal Maya transparency bug, then it shouldn't carry over into the game.
I'm not 100% sure though, so the only way to find out is to test it...

I can assign textures in a hex editor, but not in Maya. I never learned how to work in Maya. If there are no textures assigned at all, then I can not do it. I have never learned how to do a walk file either. There are usually plenty of people around who can do that, but this is a bad time of year with finals and all. I have never done cannon locators but using the monkey see, monkey do method I should be able to figure it out. Once she is in POTC the rigging should go fast.

I have assigned them in maya, and named the materials so they are self explainatory, but I think they might need to be assigned again after export, might just be my misconception though. :facepalm they will need to be changed for adittional paint schemes though. don't worry about doing anything in maya, I have that covered:onya its just the stuff after its out of maya that I need help with. I've noticed the forums have seemed pretty dead recently, my finals must just be really late compared to everyone elses:( anyways I'll try to get the files into .gm format quickly, so they will be ready for you to begin the rigging.

I don't think the names assigned to materials in Maya are preserved in GM format, even though I've seen some examples which would seem to suggest that they are.

Anyway, in my case my exams are pretty spread out over the next few weeks, so I have to do staggered revision for them,
which is why I've been less active here over a long period rather than totally inactive for a short period. It's all over in late June, though... :dance

So here are the files in .gm format

also here are some textures that I believe arent currently ingame, but need to be used for this model. I will post a list of what textures go where shortly (i'll just start with the historical HMS Centurion scheme)

great!:onya Here is an updated file for the hull, I combined a few more objects with the same texture, which from what I've heard should help with framerates and the like. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43901618/CArmstrong/Models/Kriswood's HMS Centurion/Centurion.gm
here is a list of what textures go where
hull:

Underwater hull- WOOD_MAIN.tga
Wales/railings-Raa10.tga
Figurehead- DECO.tga
Headrails/anchors/stern assembly/chainplates/railings-Metal.tga
Hawseholes/anchor ropes/flagstaff-wood.tga
Sides (along main rows of gunports)Wood_deck.tga
Gunport lids-Raa10.tga

Inside hull along gunports-Poseidon9.tga
Pieces behind gunports –Raa7.tga
Stern (piece not yet textured)-Raa10
Deck- Wood_deck.tga
Hatch covers-hatch.tga
Top of launch, capstan etc-wdodGrainU2
Guns-inzanegun1.tga
Upper hull stripe-Poseidon6.tga
Masts(some have fewer parts and may not require all of these)
mast itself, and standing rigging-wood.tga
ropes around mast, cloth thing on back of fighting top-DECO.tga
Fighting top floor- Wood_deck.tga
yards-Wood.tga

I converted the textures to .tx format and found that DECO was already used, so renamed it to DECC.

urrrghh, that stupid transparency thing in maya carried over:mad: seeing as it is those specific objects whose textres arent working, I think its a problem with the model. when I combined some objects in maya because they had the same texture, they became transparent, and the objects that were transparent in maya are the ones whose textures aren't working here. I'll upload a new version based off how it was before I combined the objects and nothing was transparent, but it means the same textures will have to be assigned to different parts of the hull. BTW did you change the texture for the underwater hull from Wood_main?

EDIT: I'll check the masts too, there didnt seem to be anything wrong with them in maya:read

This is very confusing to me, so here are a bunch of screenies to illustrate this problem. The first two hulls you posted look the same and are the 1st three pics. What I first thought were blank white textures are actually Wood.tga. I do not know why DECC is not showing properly.
The last two are the last hull you posted. There is something odd going on there.
The only change I made to the GMs was to change DECO to DECC. That is what Wood_main looks like. Wood_main1 is white. Is that what it is supposed to be?
The masts are mostly blank with just a few spots of color, and the yards are totally blank.

that is very strangeo_O It almost looks as though the texture is being repeated on every polygon:confused: I'll take a closer look tomorrow. has anyone seen this before?

Looks like your UVs are seriously messed up. Check the right UV sets are used in the relationship editor.
If all else fails, you might just have to redo the materials from scratch.

Also, you need to take that flagpole off the main hull model and make it a separate model, otherwise there will be issues with the 3rd person camera.

Also you're using the wrong underwater text. It should be a whitewashed plank texture, not plated. Centurion never had a plated hull.

yeah, Hylie, please use WOOD_MAIN for the underwater hull as I said in my previous post, coppering was invented a bit after the centurion's time. I'll check the UV sets and delete any extra's. Sorry I didnt think of it, Ive gotten out of the practice of checking for that because I avoid the problem completely when I UV map for my own ships
Armada, does the flagpole need to be in a seperate file to be placed with a locator or something?

Coppering was invented during Centurion's time I think. There was also some experimentation with lead plating. Neither really caught on though until a few decades later.
