Captain Python's POTC Movies Thread

I have decided to make a Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest Website Links page (it will all also be on the first post in this thread) so now for those who like to go and check for POTC 2 updates every so often can do it quickly (and not have to dig through this thread):

<a href="http://movies.go.com/moviesdynamic/movies/movie?name=piratesofthecaribbean2_2005" target="_blank">Movies.com Website</a>

<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0383574/" target="_blank">IMDbs Website</a>

<a href="http://filmforce.ign.com/objects/570/570328.html" target="_blank">Ign.com Website</a>

<a href="http://www.the-bahama-islands.com/piratesofcaribbean.html" target="_blank">Bahama’s Vacation Guide website</a>

<a href="http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/pirates_of_the_caribbean_2/" target="_blank">Rotten Tomatoes Website</a>

Cool, thanks, Captain Python! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I have also made a new thread for this same topic on the Pirates of the Burning Sea Forum:
<a href="http://www.flyinglab.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=149796#post149796" target="_blank">http://www.flyinglab.com/forums/showthread...9796#post149796</a>

Now my news will reach more people. I think I deserve the title of "Guy who can't wait for the Pirates of the Caribbean Sequals" in the pirate gaming community.

<b><u>Update</u></b>
From the Bahama's Vaction Guide Website:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->9-21-05: Movie filming delayed due to Hurricane Rita when she passed as a Tropical Storm churning up the sea, according to The Mole. Disney had hoped to start today but rough seas and windy conditions continued to prevail. There was some practicing but, no serious attempts at filming until Friday, the 23rd. The local news also reported that the 23rd would be the first filming date and that 150 of the crew were flown in on a charter yesterday afternoon. Also in from our Southern Bahamas Roving Report, the crew will again film on a sleepy cay in Exuma at some point in November.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b><u>Update</u></b>
I haven't been able to update lately. The news for these last few days comes from <a href="http://www.the-bahama-islands.com/piratesofcaribbean.html" target="_blank">Bahamas Vacation Guide</a>. This is one of the primary sights where I get news. For photos, go to that sight.
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->29 September 05: Filming on-going - The Black Pearl Sails

Last week filming commenced on Grand Bahama Island on the action movies Pirates of the Caribbean II & III. Orlando Bloom was reported to be on site at the set located at the Collyer Water Tank and spending long hours creating the Disney adventure films.

On 28 September the Black Pearl sailed from Bradford Marine toward the Collyer Tank. Below are a couple of photos of her passing the Lucayan Beach strip, travelling several miles offshore.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->1 October 05: More Cannon Fire!

Today the Grand Bahama Roving reporter had the good fortune to stumble upon the spectacle of the Flying Dutchman! As if seeing the haunting vision wasn't enough of a treat, she fired her cannons. So here you go. The Black Pearl and the Endeavor and a little of what the setting is like on the approach at the set: (click smaller photos for enlarged versions)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

She seems much bigger...

I love the Flying Dutchman - it would be awesome if Disney would set it up somewhere as an attraction when the filming is done. Those gunports especially, HA, I really like those... Creepy and just so very well done! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Thanks for the head's up on this update, Captain Python! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Don't worry, I will update you guys anytime there is anything of significance on these sights. Pictures, videos, plot info, and casting especially.

I happened to find some PotC movie news that I'm not sure has been mentioned yet:

<i><b>Actress Keira Knightly about filming PotC 2 and 3:</b></i>
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->"I had my first day back [recently], because we had a little bit of a break over the summer. My first day back was being dragged across the deck by an invisible giant squid, invisible because it's being put in by CGI afterwards," Knightley giggled. "So I just spent the entire time pretending that it was tentacles everywhere, and the director was running around going, 'I'm a tentacle, I'm a tentacle.' It takes a little bit of an imagination; I have no idea what it's going to look like, but hopefully it'll be cool." For the stunt work, the actress "had a harness on, and a line running down my leg and coming out the bottom of my boot, and it was on a machine. They cranked the machine and it would just whip me over the floor, it was wicked." The fully-realized beast will attack Knightley as she rides on an ocean vessel in one of the "Pirates" films, due in theaters in the next few years.

"We're shooting scenes in the third movie without even knowing what the hell we're doing," laughs Verbinski. "We actually have a pretty good second script and the third script is still on the operating table. And we're in triage constantly, everyday. I don't recommend making two movies at once. I think that we're going to get there, but it's just madness. You're like building ships and the ships aren't ready and you have four hundred extras. There's a lot of fun and I think that the second movie is strong and clever and has a lot going on. The third movie we're still working on."<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--><a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1511401/story.jhtml" target="_blank">Full Story</a> (Including lots of stuff that has nothing to do with it)

<i><b>Director Gore Verbinski about filming PotC 2 and 3:</b></i>
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->"It's tricky," says Verbinski. "You can't just phone that in. We actually have a story that's challenging and compelling and dangerous and he's still the character that gets to weave his way through that story and affect everyone else with his own agenda. But you don't want to make the mistake of going, 'Well, they loved Johnny Depp. Put him in every scene.' You'd then kind of wear that out. You need a very unique take."

The rumor of Keith Richards playing Depp’s dad in the film is still, only a rumor, but it’s something the director would like to make happen.

"We hope so," he says. "We're trying to work out his dates. We all want it to work, but it's his tour dates and his lawyers."<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--><a href="http://www.ifmagazine.com/new.asp?article=2416" target="_blank">Full Story</a>

I found all this through the <a href="http://movieweb.com/movies/film.php?2833" target="_blank">MovieWeb Dead Man's Chest page</a>. Also shown there is what seems to be an official teaser poster:
<a href="http://media.movieweb.com/galleries/2833/posters/poster1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://media.movieweb.com/galleries/2833/posters/poster1_full.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>
<span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>(Click to enlarge)</span>

Do you notice how the teaser poster is all "jungley"? The bones have been replaced by torches, some feathers are added to the skull's head. Looks interesting. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Finally, we have news. Hurricane Wilma has come and gone, so news is coming in from the Bahamas. The Hurricane appears to have not done any apparent damage to the ships. Here is the news from Bahamas Vacation Guide (to see pictures, go to <a href="http://www.the-bahama-islands.com/piratesofcaribbean.html" target="_blank">http://www.the-bahama-islands.com/piratesofcaribbean.html</a> , I noticed on the October 26th Pictures that there are pictures of the HMS <i>Dauntless</i> from the first movie (never heard about this before, but it’s still cool):
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><u>23 & 25 October</u>: (sorry no power since Wilma so delays in posting) Disney has previously flown out cast and crew in advance of Hurricane Wilma's arrival. The props were put into storage at various locations on Grand Bahama. The Black Pearl went back to her dockage at Bradford Marina at Freeport Harbour and we stumbled across the Flying Dutchman the day prior to Wilma's violent visit. As usual click on the smaller images to view in full size.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><u>26 October</u>: The Grand Bahama Island Roving Reporter decided to check on the Flying Dutchman to see if there were any signs of damage from Hurricane Wilma. (looks good to us!) A bonus was offered as the prop earlier spotted moving west to eat from the Lucayan Beach strip, was stored close by and photos of that much closer are also provided below. Remember to click on the photos to see over-sized versions.
Disney cast and crew were flown out late last week and will return once the set if back in shape for filming. The local news suggested it would only take a few days to get the set in order.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Has <a href="http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/660/660484p1.html" target="_blank">this</a> one been mentioned yet? I haven't read the full article yet, but it sure looks interesting. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Update from Bahamas' Vacation Guide:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->1 November 05: Disney started filming again on Sunday 30 October. Yesterday the Grand Bahama Roving Reporter had a special mission and naturally ended up with some new photos to share. A special favour had been requested by a newlywed couple, Meaghan and John. Her favorite movie was Pirates of the Caribbean and she wanted to see the props and set if possible. While all things are not possible the roving reporter took them as close as they could get and they got a special inside look as the privacy canvas was not all in place (no photos included as that is too much of an intrusion). We can report that the Edinburgh/Endeavor was there but not in one piece. You'll have to watch the movie to see how and why;) The report states "we set foot upon public ground where the newlyweds were able to walk out onto the creek at low tide, and easily view the Black Pearl already set to see just out from our vantage point. Low and behold the Flying Dutchman was in the exterior regions of the tank and then a tug or two began dragging her toward the Pearl as the Pearl spun around. It was an awesome sight to behold and finally the two ships were lined up for filming from the waterfront."<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<u>Update</u>

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->5 November 05: Today in a conversation with Michael Singer, the Unit Publicist, it was confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3 will continue filming on Grand Bahama Island until sometime in February. However there will be a break for Christmas for the cast and crew.

Friday night this writer was introduced to Kevin McNally whose character is Mr. Gibbs, and sitting with him were Lee Arenberg whose character is Pintel and Mackenzie Crook whose character is is Ragetti. (you might recall that the later two were dressed as women and used as decoys when the Dauntless was about to be attacked by the supernatural pirates in the first flick). They were all very gracious and polite. In fact everyone we meet associated with the movie has been extremely nice, polite and as accommodating as is possible including Mr. Singer and Mr. Verbinski (who btw is devilishly handsome to boot - haven't met Mr. Singer but have been threatening to buy him a drink).<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->6 November 05: From the Grand Bahama Island Roving Reporter, "stopped by set to see what was happening and could hear them Yell "We are Hot" and this is what they were filming, see photo below."

Later we received the following report from the Clever Fox: "While at the set in the late afternoon the only filming we saw was on the ships. They had lots and lots of people on the Black Pearl and were lifting someone up in a hoist to the Dutchman."

(to see picture, look on November 6th Update <a href="http://www.the-bahama-islands.com/piratesofcaribbean.html" target="_blank">Here</a>)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Hey, I just noticed on the Johnny Depp Forum that they had a thread that said that POTC 1 was shown on ABC on November 3rd. Weird how I didn't notice. Did anyone here see it? As far as I have heard, nothing really bad except this "dirty Chanzes" thing (see forum <a href="http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/johnnydeppreads/vpost?id=703137" target="_blank">here</a> ).

It has very small resolution but the the quality is all right. It is a .wmv file packed in a .zip file.

And what should I say? Captain Jack Sparrow is cool as ever <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
