Can't extinguish fires!

Roric

Landlubber
I made a strange observation:

I started a new game in swashbuckler mode and now I'm not able to fight shipfire. Therefore the fire onboad kills my ship, not the enemy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

In adventurer mode extinguishing fire works well and now I can't do anything. Is that on purpose?

Is there a readme where I can find the differences in the four difficulty levels.

When I set the shipfire off in de bs.h the game crashes the controls. So I can't play without it but I must fight it!

Any help highly appreciated.

Basic Ship Defense is now one of my top priorities for abilities......along with basic defence, advanced defence, toughness, long range boarding, and master of boarding. The rest of the abilities can be useful too, and sacrificing one skill or ability for another keeps the game interesting. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

So is this still a problem or was it solved by getting the basic ship defense ability?

i did notice that when you turn off having to use firedrills to extinguish fires fires don't occur at all. they are extinguished immediatly aftet they start, both on the player's ship as on that of the enemy. i must say that that fountain of water looks pretty funny without a fire. it looks like someone pulled the plug out of the ship. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Thanks @all. The problem is solved. I try to play the game in swashbuckler now and only with "comrades-in-arms" They are very weak at the beginning, but they want no salary. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I put the salary multi to five. This makes the game more challenging and and makes the comrades more usefull. I've never thought abouit using Rys Bloom before. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Though I was not able to sink the Oiseau...I catched a British fleet and they did the job for me.<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I also decreased the skillpoint advance on levelup to one. No more 10,10,10,10,10-guys.

Now its really funny

Today, I had 2 fires extingush themselves(before I had the basic ship defense ability) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

I have never had that happen before. Usually my ship burns up and sinks if I cant extinguish the fires <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Did one of my inactive officers abilities help my ship survive, or was I just really lucky in these 2 instances?

The officers basic ship defense skill counts. You don't need it personally. I focus on the active perks and let the passive ones for my officers.

Do the officers use active perks in Build 13? Do they use armor given to their inventory?

They should, but I'm not sure if they do. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I found out that my officer doesn't get the -1 melee penalty when equipping him with the cheapest armor.

I believe the skill changes for items only takes effect after looking at the items in the inventory or something like that. Not sure how that works, especially not how it works with officers. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

i'm pretty sure that the sailing skill of an officer doesn't have any effect. when i increased my sailing skill, it suddenly did have effect.

does anyone else experience my problem with the fires, or is my post being ignored again?

I never turn that mod off, so I don't know. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> I have it off and don't have any problems,
my ship gets hit the fires are squirted automaticly <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

strange. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> when i am supposed to get a fire, it doesn't even start. it stops at the same moment as it starts. no matter my repair skill.

EDIT: maybe of some significance: i put the fire length and damage back to that of the stock game.
