Build Alpha 8

Admiral8Q

Troublesome Corsair
I installed build 14A8 and for the original quest, I hit a black screen when I try to start a new game.

For the Bartholemeu quest it works, but I can't open the door at the top of the dock, at the very begining.

Just thought I'd let everyone know. I've reinstalled build 13 so I won't be able to test 14a8 any further for now, sorry!

Are you sure you installed correctly? That shouldn't happen.
It works fine in my game version and when installing correctly, the result is the exact same as my version.
I confirmed that this is true by installing and comparing both versions.

Again, I will post here so you know you can do this.

You CAN have multiple installs of the game with different mods for each. So you know I have all of the following installed on my system and working perfectly PotC - Stock, PotC Build 13 Final, PotC Build 14A8, AoP - Stock, AoP - Supermod, AoP - Secrets of Far Seas.

Basically here are the steps to do this.

1) Install stock PotC/AoP

2) BACK UP YOUR ORIGINAL INSTALL!!!! (that way you can delete everything from a broken version, and just unzip the original files to a blank slate)

3) Make as many copies of the original install directory as you need. Rename any copies to things that make sense to you. Example - My PotC directories are named thus - PotC = Stock Game, PotC_Build13 = PotC build 13 and PotC_B14 = PotC Build 14 (whatever the latest is). My AoP directories follow a similar naming structure.

4) Install the mod of your choice into the appropriate directory.

5) Make individual shortcuts to each version of the games on your desktop or whereever you want them.....

6) PLAY TO YOUR HEARTS CONTENT WITHOUT EVER MESSING UP ONE VERSION OR ANOTHER!!! YAAAAYYYY!!!!!

Hope that helps!!

I can confirm that Cap'n_Drow advice is correct. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
I have seven versions of the game at different release levels on my machine.

That really does help, thanks Cap'n Drow <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> However HOW would I backup the original install? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I'm pretty sure I installed it correctly. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Here's what I did:

-Clean install

-Install Build 13

-Install Build 14a8

-Ran "Runme.bat"

Okay, for backup - I just use WinRar. Right click the stock install directory, go to winrar/winzip context menu and choose 'Add to Rar/Zip'. When the requester comes up asking you what to name the file, choose a directory to save your backup to, name the rar/zip file, and choose your compression level and off you go. Usually takes awhile to rar/zip the directory since its so big, but once done you have a pristine copy of the game the way it should be installed fresh from the disk.

Now remember, don't EVER uninstall the game. If you screw something up that breaks it, just delete everything in the main directory and unzip your backup to where it belongs and Voila, instant (well, ALMOST instant) reinstallation.

I'm not sure, does he need to run the Runme.bat for build 13 before installing build 14? I don't remember if I did or not.

Pieter may need to answer that one.

Anyhow, glad I could help and hope the backup instructions help you out as well.

Yes, RunMe.bat does need to be run at the build 13 level.

Short Jack Gold is correct. Of course the Build 13 Final installer runs it automatically anyway.
For me, I just make a copy of my PotC directory and put a different install on it.
I also have a ZIP version of the stock game, which actually installs quicker and easier than the CDs.

Looks like you left out step #2 in the Full Install instructions - after installing Build 13, "Remove the PROGRAM, RESOURCE\INI and RESOURCE\MODELS\Locations\decks folders."
Then install Build 14-8. This worked for me, although there are plenty of playability bugs.
