Build 14 Alpha Work in Progress

you guys are halfway fixing the boarding of a surrenderd ship in build 14. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> now, i DO move, but the enemy captains dialogue doesn't work. it only shows some kind of error.
 
Please enable error logging and show the error reported that is generated. Also: What exactly do you mean with "the enemy captain's dialog doesn't work"? When the dialog starts, you get a "Can't load dialog" message instead? Or does something else happen?

It is just that fixes being put out now are needed for B 13 but only available for the 14alpha.

Also the longer we wait to make Build 13 as bug free and stable as B 12 was, the greater the risk that new fixes become dependent on alpha code.

14 Alpha code will drift away from B 13 just like pre-13 had drifted away from B 12.
Over time it got to the point that bug fixing was almost impossible ... remember?

And that was with a bug free B12 base, which we don't yet have with Build 13.

And thus my concern. Time spent on alpha is taken from B 13 and 13 will never be the clean, complete, bug free build that build 12.1 was.

Petros, I share your concern. But remember 12.1 still had the black status bars on ships when you were at sea. That alone was annoying enough to get me to move to the Build 13 code.

For what it's worth, I'm still using Build 13. Any changes I make will be based on Build 13 code.

Playing alpha 2

One old porbelm I have been having continues. All the chests on a boarded ship are empty. I have had this issues since the begining the only comment I have gotten is that morgan is not having the problem. If I am the only one with this issue iF anyone has any ideas about why or what to do about it I would really appreciate it.

New problem with this version: ON boarding when the captian surrended in his cabin he couldn't load his dialogue which pretty much ends the thing right there becasue you can't go anywehre.

The file I just posted contains ALL recent fixes, including CCC's ones, Jonathan Aldridge's ones and several others. The BuildingSet should also be in proper working order again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I updated my website; now both the full update Build 14 Alpha 2 and the update for it are available.

Me also - i'll probably stick with it untill all things i can see wrong with it(too easy land combat/Forts fireing at crazy ranges etc) are ironed out - personaly as Build13 IS the latest offical build mod release that anyone coming here will see first, i think it should be a priority that we make it as good as can be.

If your a new comer to a mod, there's nothing worse than getting your first impression that its got 'issues'.

I can try to find time this weekend to make a new update for Build 13 including the latest bugfixes. Would that be any good? Anyway: Build 12 was never truly bugfree. It was bugfree to the point that it was playable without major weirdness. You are right that Build 13 isn't really there yet, because you do encounter weirdness in Build 13, but for all I know (and I don't know much about it, I admit) Build 13 at least IS playable.

Anyway: What would you have us/me do? I don't have time to do much myself; all I can find time for is to put other people's work together. I need to get that bug confirmed. So far you're the only person I heard about that. It really doesn't help that nowadays bug reporters keep reporting things, then other people say it doesn't happen, then it does, then it doesn't. Probably caused by a small mistake of mine. I'll check it when I get back home. In the meantime: Take the Cabinfight_dialog.c from the previous update and stick it in your current game version instead.

Pieter, with regard to empty chests I will reinstall build 14 per your insturctions and see if it goes away.

I know this was in reply to Petros, but i can pass a suggestion along <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> both Hook+CCC(and i presume Hat when he's back from holiday) are saying they are still working on build13 fixes mostly.

And we have stuff being worked on listed in the bug tracker for these things.......so the actual work/programming side of it is being done. I cant find much wrong with the build13 myself(other than the land combat balance and possibly fort fireing distance oddness, oh and a few dialogue errors here and there). If most of those were sorted out it would be good.

Its cool that build14alpha is running along nicely - it took what......about two years to get from build12 to build13....so we've got a longterm project ahead with build14 i suspect? Still that is alpha and build13 is the current linked to mod that people get if they want to play modded POTC(and why wouldn't you!).

I think we still have a few issues on some of the new islands in build13(but i havent visted any of them yet!) and i guess we need to keep an eye on the build13 bugs thread as well.

You're around for another month and a bit - so lets get as much build13 'polishing' done as possible - then at some point before your set to leave update the build that people will download. How's that sound?

build14a can carry on as is and evolve as it wants? How would it work to create a seperate bug tracker account for build14 - i can see confusion coming if we dont?

I have been playing the game myself for a bit, trying to confirm this issue. I attacked several ships, boarded them, emptied all boxes, but I could not replicate this bug. Every time I opened a box, there'd be something in there. The only empty boxes I'd encounter were the ones that I just emptied and opened again. But next time I'd end up at the same deck location on another ship, they'd be full again.
 
Strangely enough, I DID confirm the issue now. Beats me why it was working properly before and not now. All chests aboard ships are empty now. Waaaay weird. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

I released a new Build 14 Alpha version. It includes several fixes and Kazeite's improved Black Pearl. The Santiago landing bug should be fixed now: I tested it myself and it works fine.

There is a small update available on my site that will update Alpha 2 to Alpha 3. The new Black Pearl is in there, but she still hasn't replaced the old one. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

A new game is required, yes.

The name is exactly the same: theBlackPearl. Everything I told you before should still work.
