Build 14 Alpha 7 Plus Full Version

Ehm. I wasn't exactly talking about that. I meant getting to sit next to a nice lady; that's already hard enough. Now the scene you describe thankfully has not happened to me.

Do you know the missing cannon fire sounds in this version? They're not missing, they're just not very loud. If you move the camera close to your cannons, you'll hear them firing. You can hear the cannon fire (at a barely audible volume) when on deck and firing. I haven't tried moving the camera close in 3rd person view while firing.

There are also sound problems on land. When talking to some NPC's, their voices are either very, very low or not there at all (maybe they are there, but I can't hear them). Also, some gunfire sounds (musket, shotgun, etc.) cannot be heard either. I'm beginning to suspect that some of the slowdowns (in some sea battles and in some towns) may be related to the sound issue also.

I cannot get the EIC quest to work in any manner I try it. I either get stuck in the tavern with Beckett never talking to me, or he is not there to accept gold (bartender says he will be back in a day or two), or he simply is not there.

Lastly, another boarding issue (in addition to the "stuck in the deck/mast"). I've had the problem of my officers either fighting me and/or each other on boardings. Seems to happen almost every time - they fight each other, my own boarders and/or me. I thought this one was fixed in Alpha 7 PLUS?

The good thing is that I've had very few CTDs. I think maybe 2 or 3 total in about 16-20 hours of game play.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty close to going back to Alpha 6 and waiting on Alpha 8. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

well, at least the game starts up. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> wasn't there a file where the fading distance for the sounds was determined? there should be, at least. maybe tinkering with that would make a difference. and has anyone tried removing a bunch of soundfiles yet? maybe there simply ARE too much of them.
 
Pirate_KK did a rewrite of the sound effects system because indeed there WERE too many, causing some to simply go missing. Apparently the rewrite doesn't work perfectly yet either. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I believe the Beckett not talking is cured by the fix Pieter posted - Sep 29 in Build 14 Alpha 7 Plus Full Version, Now available! (It worked for me).

The "he will be back in a day or two", or, Beckett just not being there, is because you haven't sunk the French ship after talking to the French Officer on Oxbay. He will turn up after that part of the Quest is completed.

I have applied the Pieter fix, got the "back in a day or two" message at Redmond Ravern, left and sunk the French ammo ship from FDF, returned to Redmond Tavern and Beckett is not there (and there is no more dialog with the bartender about Beckett).

I don't think my dialog fix has anything to do with that. The only thing it fixes is characters not talking to you when you're standing on a reload locator. This would break certain quests unless you'd move away from the reload locator before the character to talk to you would start the dialog.

impressive. i salvaged a pinnace with a gunboat, but pinnaces have weak broadsides. that stern, that's what you need to look out for! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> also got a caravel and a fleut with a cutter. biggest mistake i ever made. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> that's the first and last time i'll ever use a caravel!

In Kevin's particular case it does match the criteria - the player is on a reload locator when the dialog starts - and indeed your fix does cure that.

Im impressed actually about that you really can kick some a$$ when playing a Pirate! even in
dingy or in other small vessels.

i almost managed to get a manowar with a schooner. ALMOST. it was ship that had surrendered. unfortunatly, shooting on it didn't make it hostile. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> ever tried taking such a ship in that pea-soup fog? it's dreadful! you KNOW there are 45 guns right in front of your nose staring at you but you CAN'T SEE THEM! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/8q.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":8q" border="0" alt="8q.gif" /> it's always a bit of shock when the bleedin' thing looms out of the mist heading right for you on a collision course. had that happen when i was crossing the ocean in a gunboat once. i think i leaped a meter off my chair when that happened! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

as for taking the pinnace with the gunboat, it was a bit of a forced battle, as i happened to encounter a MASSIVE pirate fleet, consisting of a galleon, the pinnace, a war schooner, and a lugger! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> i was like: 'aw, screw this' and just wen't for it and won! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

but this isn't the topic for this. there is a ship battle topic lurking around somewhere. how about digging that up? you could find it by looking for my first posts.

Is there a way to add/replace a character to the list in the advanced options menu? I think this may have been mentioned before. I just can't find it.
