Build 14 Alpha 7 Plus Full Version

I haven't tried boarding yet, as I'm still fighting a random engine.exe crash.

That dialog fix helped with the broken quests thou.. thanks. I assume I place those "modified_files" in the ../PROGRAM dir.? Should I start a new game as well?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
For now, use only the dialog fix. Before, I prefer to know the opinion of SJG and Pieter. But, with these modified files I ended the main quest.

Yes - PROGRAM
You should to pick up the story - but you may get away without that IF you have a saved game at the point where you first land at Redmond prior to meeting Beckett.

Would anyone know what this might mean:
(from error.log)
RUNTIME ERROR - file: Sound\sound.c; line: 836
void function return value
RUNTIME ERROR - file: Sound\sound.c; line: 836
function 'PlayGreeting' stack error
RUNTIME ERROR - file: Sound\sound.c; line: 836
void function return value
RUNTIME ERROR - file: Sound\sound.c; line: 836
function 'PlayGreeting' stack error

and if it might be causing my crashes?

I don't know what it means, but I don't think it should cause a crash. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Is anyone getting bad save files with the quick-save (F4)feature?

i got the bad rope data also before but it never crashed my game. your runtime error with the sounds is probably what pushed your game over the edge.

that exactly is your game doing? are you able to play for like a half hour and then it crashes like every five minutes after that or is it right from the begining?

yeah I think my install got hosed somehow.. 'cause it was getting where it wouldn't even load, so reinstalled the whole thing back to 1.0.

I'm having better luck with the original install, and it's been forever since I played through it, so I'll prolly just wait awhile on B14xx...and try to make it thru the original quest.

i think you might be missing a soundfile, but i'm not sure wether it was that what caused a crash. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> i've been experimenting with the music code in the past, and the sounds code is really similar, you see.

To Pieter Boelen:

It seems you changed in Tempquestcharacters François Moulin to Francois Moulin but you didn't make the changes in quests_reaction.c
Consequently, it's impossible to play "Find François Moulin" quest. So, I made the changes and I also added some code so that Antoine Chamfort disappear after killing him.(Indeed, I noted if you leave the fort and come back to the location where you killed him. He will appear dead but still standing).
The file is compatible with Build Alpha 14/7 Plus.

Did you install "missing_files_for_alpha7.zip" - it includes a SOUND.H file which you might not have. Have a look back at the install instructions for 14a7.

Thanks.

Is Chamfort still VERY hard to get to and kill in the fort?

I didn't have any problem to kill him <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Ok, I still have bugs with some of my quests. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> In "Turks Help" quest and "Santiago"quest, Pieter Boelen and Francisco Cruz refuse to speak to me. These problems exist since Build 14/6. So, WHAT THE CODE THAT CAUSES THESE BUGS <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
If these problems continue, I'm going to make a "special version" from Build/5. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Thanks for your fix, Bartolomeu. I have no idea what is the problem with Fransisco and Pieter. It appears there have crept some inexplicable bugs into the Alphas. Also Malcolm Hatcher having the toughness ability, making the tutorial just about impossible to play. We don't even know why that happened, but fact is it did. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Mates,

I am on the road for 10 days and if I am going to keep testing I have to reinstall everything on my laptop.
coould someone post the correct reinstall order to build alpha 7 plus?

Thanks

1- Make sure you have Build 13 installed properly
2- Remove the folder RESOURCE\MODELS\locations\DECKS
3- Extract the Build 14 Alpha version on top of your game
4- Extract and run preset.bat from the Build 14 Alpha file
5- Run RunMe.bat
6- Run Build 14 Alpha 7 installer. When asked select main game directory (where ENGINE.EXE is)
7- Extract the Missing Files to your main PotC directory
8- Delete postinstall.exe from main directory
9- Extract Build 14 Alpha 7 Plus to your main directory
10- Run Files.bat
11- Install various fixes. Not sure which fixes should and shouldn't be installed. In any case get the <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=10988&view=findpost&p=215930" target="_blank">dialog.c fix</a>.

I think that should work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

download links on the first post of this thread are 404. Is there an FTP which has all the files up?

[edit]

They're all working now <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Hi, good work <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />. The most stable version after i started to play the latest build again (full + dialogs).

I tested some "features":
Captured ships are repaired automatically while staying in a town for at least one night: that leads to some CTDs, now, and is possible related to the swapping ship repair bug (which is gone in this version, at least for the 1st swap).

I can loot chests on ship now w/o a CTD afterwards (next SEA or worldmap entering).

Experience gain: my hero makes the next lvl after lvl 3 only via NPC killing, experinec egained for other things does count for companions, not for the main char.

After doubling the mainquest, Beckett sending me to Antigua and Greenford, gives a black screen while leaving the inn.
Saved before so will try 1st only Beckett.

Directsail works very well, only the Fleut_3 leads sometimes to crashes. Nice are the messages at night or in fog, how the outlook can find anything in the dark sea (a bemasted vessel)?

Quicksave works well, used it until now only on palyes where normal saves are available too.

At Antigua the shipyard with the instant repair ... a ship captured with a fire on it leads after repair there to CTDs. Also fighting Pirates and often repairing the own ship there leads to some unstable situations.

Attached a small assortment of my system and error.log, i have seen also this sound.c error mentioned before, most crashes are related in my install to the seadog.c line 788.

Can you please post all those bugs on the Bug Tracker? We don't want to lose all your valuable observations.

I am having some issues with Charlestown in my game: The town exit doesn't lead to the jungle, but to the guardhouse. I tried figuring out why this is, but I could make heads nor tails of it. All the code seems to be right, as do the locators, but still it works wrong. Does anyone have this as well? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
