Build 13 Updates

Like Doober says: Be sure to check the "Build 13 ReadMe.rtf" file in the buildinfo folder. There are a whole bunch of things changed, such as cannons exploding, limits on buying ships, bladedamage mod, improvements to boarding and all sorts of other things.

i might be on to something about those permanently empty chests. could everybody please check what the name displayed at the top of the screen when opening a chest that turns out to be empty because of the bug? i mean the text like 'vendor', 'chest', 'weapons locker' and such. the reason that i ask is that i once encountered it too (but it might be a one of a kind bug), and then it said 'ship chest' at the top, and my ship chest was empty. i basically opened the ship chest from the shore. if i keep encountering it, i'll put some stuff in my ship chest. the chest that had the problem was the chest you can find on the isla muelle docks to the right of the city gate.

i've been encountering this bug all the time now. it indeed says ship chest at the top each time. i'm going to try out if putting anything in the ship chest does anything.
 
As for bugs... I can't berth any ships, unless I'm just doing it wrong. You click on the "shipberthing" button under the "ships" tab in the menu right? Probably while standing on a friendly island? Nothing comes up when I click the button, it just acts clicked but the screen doesn't change.

And how does it work ransoming or releasing prisoners? I have been trying to release some piratical elements (since I am assuming you get rep+ and I really needed it... one small mistake and I am the terrar of the seas for months, can't shake it) but even when I am on a pirate island they just sit there in my hold. ALSO the entire island keeps errupting in bloody battle, like everyone in town just starts hacking at each other... but maybe this is supposed to be this way?

That said, I'm enjoying it. I've been exploring that haunted abbey... never really went in there before out of fear for my life. When I feel more adventurous (I am getting back my sea legs little by little) I'll try Pre-14.
 
i wouldn't do that yet if i where you. wait until the next update. it seems like that one will be the most stable build 14 so far. it should come out pretty soon.

This post has the solution. It was a bug in update 2. You'll have to change it manually in your game.

It was noted somewhere that the dialog might say "release at Pirate Island", it doesn't always mean QC.
Check the nationality of each prisoner and release them at those locations.
This has worked for others.

Don't do it, too many game play bugs there.
Plus Build 13 still needs work on testing the, main and side quests, to get them all working properly.

I assume you are using Build 13 Update 2? That is a known little mistake in there. Soon I'll make a Build 13 Update 3 with that bug fixed. In the meantime extract attached file to PROGRAM\INTERFACE. First sail into the port until the anchor icon appears, then go to your cargo hold and talk to the prisoner to release him. That should work. Please note that you should release each prisoner in a port of the prisoner's nation.

There are several great new features in the Build 14 Alpha versions, but a whole bunch of bugs as well. I want to release a Build 13.1 version within a month that will contain Build 13 plus all Build 14 Alpha mods that are already working as they should.
 
Petros/Pieter: Thanks for the tips, I can berth ships now. And I'm glad I get an easy list of which ship I left where, I'd totally forget them otherwise and have to go hunting all over the archipelago. (If only there was a way to do a running tally, island by island, of my debts or bank accounts... perhaps enabled by me having a purser as a crewman? I gota gunner and I see he always stocks my personal pistol ammo supply, that's a huge help.)
 
I encountered another bug. Well sort of a bug. After downloading Update 2 (I'm using Build 13) I extracted all of the files. In the middle of the process, I received an error log that some file that had shipyard in it's name cannot be extracted. After the extraction, I started a new game and eventually I went to the shipyard. But now, instead of a RPG like trading, I found out that the shipyard is selling all ship classes (except for Man-O-War) and I was able to buy a Lineship, Warship, Frigate, Corvette and other high class ships at level 5. And that's not it, all of the classes were mixed as I scrolled through the shipyard's inventory too.

well, it's pretty obvious to me that it's that shipyard file. if i where you, i'd just re-install if you could. it seems that most of the bugs are cuased by faulty downloads or wrong installation procedures. the latter of the two not being the case here.

Unfortunately I have been unable to do much for Build 13 before I leave, but at least I did manage to make an update 3. It contains several bugfixes and should be the most stable Build 13 version so far. I am sorry I have been unable to make a new full installer or an update with stable Build 14 Alpha mods, but that was just too much work for me at the moment. I will leave it up to Pirate_KK and the rest of the community to work on that. My time here is over.

BTW: As a goodbye gift to you all, I included the Mapships V2 mod into Update 3. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Can somebody confirm that my webspace is indeed that slow? It's rather odd that it should be slow; it used to be about lightning fast. It was last time I checked. i downloaded this morning and it was running at full speed. 110 kb per second. if that's considered slow then you are very hasty indeed.

Wow Pirates has come a long way since ive been in these parts. Very much surprised at how improved this game is since i last had a pc. and take the brand new game AOP... just as buggy as pirates when it started. Yes ill be downloading like a mad man...... Pirate_KK made a Build 13 Final installer, which includes all files to install up to Build 13 Update 3 in one installer. This should make it easier for people wanting to play the most stable Build version. This file is now available from my website. ah, excellent. i know quite a few people at school who will be interested in that. can you install it over the regular build 13?
 
Of course, but there's no real point. It's just Build 13 + Update 3 in one package. You can get the same result by installing just
<a href="http://www.pafiles.com/build/b13_update3.zip" target="_blank">Update 3</a> if you already have Build 13 installed.
