Please, I urge you to venture back down memory lane and reread your <a href="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9117&st=0" target="_blank">unfinished boarding discussion from December 7th.</a>

The matter being this

The Build 13 documentation also states that the mentioned boarding change will facilitate some degree of tactical choices by the player, e.g. do I cover the flank of my mens main push or do I let my men run for one of the crossings and then I try and fight my way around the enemy via the second crossing thus attacking him in his back while my men block in front!

It it quite clear from the discussion linked to above that at some point during the beta builds of build 13 Sir Hook and Sir CCC had done a major overhaul on boarding and that this somehow went AWOL in the first build 13 and probably from there on up to B14 Alpha 4.

Now the unfinished question from the above discussion is:
Is the boarding in B13U2 and B14A4 100% up to the same hypersonicsuper quality made by Sir Hook And Sir CCC for B13?

I have not done a lot of boarding yet in neither B13 nor B14 so I am not the best man for testing this to any extend. However the above quote certainly does not seem to be honoured in neither B13U2 nor B14A4. When the two-ship 3D boarding battle starts, the men are already logged in dog fights i.e. scattered around both ships basically in 1:1 situations or 1:2, 1:3 depending on the man count between the two ships. This is not how I understand the intend for the major boarding overhaul from Sir Hook and Sir CCC.

Can anybody with the right knowledge please confirm wheather the B13U2 and B14A4 boarding is up to par or not. Are we looking at, and using, stock boarding code? Now that would be a great pitty considering the work that has obviously gone into this from Sir Hook and Sir CCC.

Unless someone confirms that everything is A-OK with boarding then I will make a Bug Tracker issue.

I think we are using Hook's boarding code, but for some odd reason, the starting locations are all stock. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about that code to really mess with it though. The boarding with both parties starting on opposite ships was made prior to Hook's boarding code, it is possible that when he made the code, he used old starting locations, but that is purely a guess on my part. The starting locations are fine for me either way, there are good points to both. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I'm sure Hook will be able to give more info on it.
 
I swapped around some of the boarding locations on the 2 ship upper boarding deck. Last time I looked it was working. I haven't tried installing anything recently, so I don't know if it's been changed.

That boarding deck locators file needs to be completely rewritten for the 2 ship upper deck, I think. It's not exactly what you'd call optimal.

If you board a smaller ship, you should be starting on the quarterdeck of the larger ship during boarding (instead of on the smaller ship). I don't know if that ever made it into the build. Or if it did, if it's been overwritten by the old boarding locations since then.

I done a lot of boarding with B14A4 and It working perfectly as never before (no CTD at all), crew are rightly generate on deck, and always have my party back to me, I haven't see any problem, so please leave it as is <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Actually I haven't done anything regarding boarding for quite some time. What I did years ago was to seperate the boarders so that each party starts on their own ship. That was supposed to create the opportunity for some tactical moves before everyone gets locked in the melee (see posts and readme for "Boarding Party" or "Captains Challenge" )

But since then a lot of people worked on the boarding code, while I focused on other projects. So currently I can't really contribute anything to that issue.
 
For some reason, that idea of CCC to have the crews start at their own ship, has been disabled and I don't know why or how. For all I know, we ARE using Hook's rewritten code, but somehow this seems to have disabled what CCC had previously done. Would be nice to have it re-enabled with a toggle on it. There IS a toggle still; it just doesn't do anything anymore. Or at least: It doesn't do what it should. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
