Black screen at start of game

I'm just reaching here, so hush me up if I'm wrong, but maybe one of the various compatibility settings (in case of Vista/7/8) could help? I seem to recall having issues such as this with other games (maybe even PotC, but my memory fails me on that) which were fixed when I found the right compatibility setting.

The only issue I have ever had with POTC and Vista/Win7 is setting DEP to have it as an exception. Other than that it installs and runs fine.
