Being Innovative

Cape Horn = OUCH! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Also a great "Slave Mod" era/location <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

The Somalia current event tie in is good and the religion clash which could be seen in a number of ways.

I have always found it interesting that some of the most famous pirate ships were at one time slave ships before they were captured. The Ivory Coast, the Barbary Coast and the Indian Ocean in the same pirate game, now that would be awesome! I also really like the idea of including famous pirates as possible encounters. Henry Avery and Captain Kidd would fit in quite nicely in that region, just to name a couple. I think you could really be on to a great angle here Keith!

Sea dogs was kind of like that, although it wasn't really a chart, just a map. I think that was one of the things that made it feel more "authentic". That would also be one way to eliminate the randomness of ships on POTC/AOP overview map. They just seem to wonder around aimlessly with no preset course until they bump into an island. Sometimes it is really laughable how they move. It would sure eliminate some code not having to set a course for each individual ship.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm sorry for being a bit off-topic, but I'm wondering if part of this will not be achevable in our PotC sooner or later? Aren't we getting closer to screw up the 3D worldmap system? If we manage to write down this kind of chart-system, that would work with Directsail, it could allow us for example to add islands from AOP without having to create new islands.gm for the 3D worldmap - keeping in mind that once we've added new islands, we have to fill them.

You already do see your ship's position on the F2>Inventory>Maps>Archipelago map screen if you have a sextant and a chronometer.
I'm not sure if this is properly updated if you sail away from an island, but it could be.
The main problem I see is that with DirectSail, there's a lot of waiting involved, unless you use time compression.
I'm wondering if it might be possible to use my suggestion of "time skipping" instead in PotC as well.

Originally your ship position on the map screen was NOT updated until you'd gotten far enough from an island. That's one thing I fixed. The ship position is always correct now, other than a problem when you first enter your ship and it shows at the center point of the island. This is updated quickly though and shows your correct position (at least to the limits of the map accuracy).

The map scale in PotC is compressed enough that it's possible to directsail to another island in real time, with the daily update every hour accounting for differences between the map scale and any real world scale. I rather like this, and we'd lose it if we went to a full scale world map.

It's the very first thing I did with the directsail code!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Oops. Missed the fact that it did that then. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
