Beeping when using the Amsterdam

Hi Guys,

I was checking the ships out and noticed a few locator errors on the Amsterdam so I adjusted them and it looks great, however the game makes a beeping sound when loading from port to sea when using this ship. Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks,

I don't know WHAT it could be, but I did experience a similar issue before. I wanted to remove the fonar_night locator from two AoP ships and after doing that, I'd also get beeping when loading to sea. Why? I have absolutely NO idea. But at least you know the problem is not limited to just you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Hmmm, I don't know what that would be, but if you are able to figure it out, upload the improved Amsterdam for the community. The nicer looking it can be made, the better.

I'm getting this also... after editing another ship I'm working on, with the Tool.

I know what it is, it indicates that there are problems with the ship.

I attempted to rotate a mast locator for a ship I'm working on.

Saving the ship in Tool dropped it's size from 341 KB to 145 KB.

The ship looked OK in game, but obviously has missing data, collision perhaps.

Putting back the original hull stopped the beep.

I didn't check the filesize, but indeed the rest I can confirm. But why a perfectly good model gets corrupted after changing a locator is beyond me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

According to what Kevin told its exactly like the TOOL curses ship models with reversed lighting effect eh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Then why would it happen with the AoP ships I noticed it with? These came straight from AoP as far as I know, so shouldn't have the reversed lighting effect.

OK now you got me into this wacko face too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Hi,

I have been trying to figure out what could be causing this problem but to no avail, I was going to try to export it to 3DS max and back in the game to see if that helps but I have no clue how to do that successfully (still learning). Anyway here are the Amsterdam files which includes the original, the one I modified and also the locators file. Maybe one of you guys may be able to do something with them.

I'm not sure what caused your problem, but here is the Amsterdam hull with your locators added.

old file size: 418,257
new file size: 417,817

Fixed file is attached.

kevin

NOTE: I have not verified that this works, or that the cannon locators, ropes, vants, ratlines, etc, are properly configured. All I did was to take the hulllocators in the original file and import/export them on the Amsterdam.gm hull in TOOL.

Once somebody has the Amsterdam model fixed, I would be most interested in getting the file. As you migth or might not know: The Amsterdam is my favourite ship of the era and she was even before she was put into the game. Actually, she was put into the game at the repeated request of... me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I tried once to add two missing cannon locators for War Galleon which I imported from AoP. After I did it with Inez Diaz tool, I saw that file was much smaller than original (it has ~230 kB and original was 532.9 kB big. When it loaded there was a beep and following error text in system.log:<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->SHIP: Up trace error, ship FastGalleon1
SHIP: Down trace error, ship FastGalleon1<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
It seems that we should find some other way to modify at least some gm files as Inez Diaz Tool has some flaws.

Kevin,

I just tried your reworked file and it works perfectly, no beeps! How did you do it because when I even just open the original Amsterdam in Tool and resave it the file shrinks in size. Anyway great job mate. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> All that is needed now is the walk files to be fixed does anyone know how to make or edit these properly? As I would like to learn how to do them.

Hi, been using Amsterdam in game and noticed some of the cannons were not aligned right so I checked it out in GM viewer and noticed that they were wrong, I must have uploaded the wrong hull locators file so here is the proper one: <a href="http://seanorris.googlepages.com/AmsterdamHullLocators.zip" target="_blank">http://seanorris.googlepages.com/AmsterdamHullLocators.zip</a> . Kevin, would you kindly apply the new locators as when I try it it still shrinks the file.

Thanks <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Here are my settings in TOOL for SHIPS:
(Checkmarks only in "Make Path Visible", "Add _x to filenames", and "Show Skeleton")
<a href="http://www.picsaway.com/view/tool_settings-323a26d292.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.picsaway.com/uploads/tool_settings-323a26d292.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

My settings for TOOL have been trial-and-error, as I haven't been able to find any info on what should be checked/unchecked when editing ships. However, my settings (as shown above) do seem to work for the most part.

Please note, that if you work on other models (locations or characters) in TOOL, then you might need to change some settings. I'm not sure, as I haven't gotten into either of those yet.

Get the PotCWalk program from here: <a href="http://www.s31clan.com/privateftps/pietersmods/" target="_blank">Pieters Pirates Page</a>

Generic WALK tutorial is here: <a href="http://robotsdontbleed.com/wacko/wakka.php?wakka=UnderstandingAndMakingShipWalkFiles&v=6b6" target="_blank">PotC WIKI - WALK Tutorial</a>

I haven't redone any walk files yet, so I can't be any help.

Try my settings as shown in the post above and let me know if you can get it to work on your own. If you are unsuccessful, let me know and I can do one more conversion for you.
