Baltimore Steam Propulsion Laboratory

We haven't had any feedback from experimental steam frigate operators yet... they are rare ships, late period only, and may be purchased as a navy vessel, class 3.

Well none of the storylines actually occur in that period do they?

I know the Master and Commander storyline is being written at the current time but otherwise is just a blank storyline...

Maybe we should add them in with the "Unique ships" sold by Vanderdecken so that they can be available in all the storylines :shrug

You might encounter them at random in the Hornblower storyline; that one IS set in the last period.
To make them show up at Vanderdecken, you have to set them to CanEncounter and CanBuy = false,
so then they won't show up randomly at sea anymore at all.

Since a M&C story is now being worked on, maybe we should make a new fully open storyline.
This time it can put the player in command of a steamer in the last period.
That way people will quickly be able to test them.

I like that idea for the new open storyline Pieter :yes

We could easily just copy/paste the ships_init.c entries and just add the lines to the copies of them :shrug

Vanderdecken and low-probability encounters; the best of both worlds.

As for MnC, it might be a bit too advanced for the player to start off with one. But if the plot progresses to encompass experimental ships from France and the US, why not?

I was suggesting a new seperate storyline solely to allow players to quickly have some fun with the steamers.
Of course actual sensical storyline involvement would be much preferrable to that. :yes

Well yes, a steampunk storyline would be tremendously fun... but the question is someone developing it in the first place...

Please dont post the same thing in multiple topics

Yes it is supposed to have sails, screenshots!?

NOTE: Other topic DELETED!

I'm pretty sure she did have sails last time I checked.
Can anyone confirm that problem?

Can you enable error logging and check if there's any sail textures reported missing in system.log?

I believe you do have that problem, don't worry. I'm just not quite sure why...
As far as I'm aware, it shouldn't happen.

Well it did happen and I didn't edit.. sort of. :p

I just made it so on the standard quest I would start of with the French Steam Frigate. I didn't change the ship at all.

Did you install the 24 Jan fix or 23 Jan Fix?

Cause if you install the 24 Jan Fix there is actually TWO ships with the same id, and this could be the problem... Look at the quote in the opening post in the fix thread to fix this

That shouldn't matter; a ship is a ship and a ship has sails.
Did you enable error logging yet and check if there's a missing sail texture mentioned in system.log?

It appears even small ships were fitted with steam auxiliary powerplants and iron plating in the 1840s and later.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Terror_%281813%29

HMS Terror is a bomb ship (mortar carrier). These ships were heavily reinforced for the recoil of the huge mortars. I'm tempted to do a conversion of one such vessel but will of course require some 3D model jury rigging.

You sure its the French Steam ship Cutler Beckett?

Cause if it was going to be one of the Steam ships that had sail problems it would be the US one :shrug

The French one uses default sails however the US one uses special sails

Very true. Both should work, but if there IS going to be a problem,
the US one uses custom sails and the French one uses the same sails as any other ship at sea.

Forgot about the French Steam Frigate not having sails... None of my ships do?! And before you ask.. I am just about to do the error logging thing. :(
