attacking ships

i can't attack ships when i try to attack them theire are all allies or neutral. I have a britsh letter of marque doesn't this mean that every enemy of brittain is an enemy of me?. Also the hoist flag option doesn't seem to work.

know i had just the same prob to when i just got the game, now i know how to attack a ally. 1: press Tab on your keyborad (you will find your self on your deck Right?).
2: you see the the yellow round thing??? (if you dont walk a little bit over the deck.)
3: move the yellow thing on your target, onley if hes close, if his far move the yellow thing above your target till it become green (or grey, forgot that <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />)
4: when it becomes green (grey <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> ) press space. ( your target becomes hostile and you can exit your deck and fire him just from obove your ship. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" />. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
