ATI and NVIDA shaders a question and/or challenge

As a old, old Pirate! from wayyy back (I owned the original C64 and Amiga versions) I was very happy to hear that Sid was doing a sequel. I LOVE the game! It's everything the original was and much much more.

However I have a question. I was looking at my config.ini and although I have the settings turned all the way up in game, my config was not maxed out.

My water detail was 3 (not 4) my object detail was 2 (not 3) and my world detail was 5 (not 6). I have an Nvidia Geforce 6800GT and I'm guessing these settings are being forced because the highest settings are ATI only shaders. Oh, and if I set the config to the max numbers (which I got from the readme file) then it resets all of my settings to 1 when I start the game.

Can anyone confirm this?

Is there anyway to get around this where I can play the game in ALL of its glory? This really hacks me off when video card companies/game companies do this junk.

Thanks,
TheErk

I know there is a website where people have thier own configs and stuff tuned for each card, i cannot remember it off hand but ill have a looksee

There are 4 water settings right? Remember, when you slide it all the way to left it counts as zero in the config file.

So with 4 water settings its not 1 through 4, its actually 0 through 3, with zero meaning "off".

I have played a lot of games and messed with many configs over the years and the lowest option is always 0 and not 1.

Hope this helps.

Sure enough...the lowest setting is 0 in the config.

However I'd really like an ATI'er to verify this for me. Maybe I'm just silly.

3/2/5/ is the max setting with ATI 9800 Pro's as well.
I've tried to force it to 4/3/6 and there is absolutely
no difference, however the water looks more artificial
with the forced setting.

TheErk: The config file came of off the CD. It will be the same for both ATI and Geforce cards.

Well, thanks guys...it looks like I just misread the configs. I really appreciate all of the posts that helped clear this one up.

Happy holidays!
