I'm not sure I understand your suggestion...

What I mean is that, instead of there being 4 common officer slots in the passenger interface one of which is automatically filled by you and the other three are filled by what ever passengers are available on your ship, these slots become officer specific i.e. a captains slot and one for each of the main officer types. These slots would also specify the important stats related to that position.

E.g. <i>Position/Job - Related Skills: Officer</i>

Captain - All : Nathaniel Hawk (Captain)

First Mate - Leadership, Luck: (empty)

Navigator - Sailing, Defence: James Smith (Navigator)

Gunner - Cannons, Accuracy: George Brown (Gunner)

Boatswain - Melee, Grappling: (empty)

Carpenter - Repair: (empty)

etc.

Now these positions would obviously be empty at the beginning of the game and fill up as you hire all the appropriate officers. Anyone can occupy these positions but unless they are the correct officer for that position, negative modifiers apply to the position related stats.
So just say in the above example that it's still fairly early in the game and these are the only two officers available and Nath's skills are still fairly low. During a sea battle you may well have Smith and Brown in their appropriate positions as above (their related skills would be fully applied to ship performance), however, following the battle it may be worthwhile to move one of them into the carpenter's postion to make repairs although there would be a negative modifier to his repair skill for being out of position...

Carpenter - Repair (-50%): George Brown (Gunner)

So I guess all this would depend on an extensive remodelling of the passenger interface and also how skills are applied to the performance of the ship and land activities like commerce.

Anyway, this is all just a line of thought at the moment.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Jack, I think that is a great idea! It would prevent you from getting all your stats to 10 on your ship early on in the game. I always did think that was a little odd. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I don´t consider it as a good ide at all. When I have fleet of three ships for example where I would place my boarded ships then? Why don´t you try invent something good new and not only exchange what is good and works well? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Huh? .... I don't understand what you mean here. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
There would be no change to the amount of ships you can have in your fleet if that's what you mean.... that has nothing to do with it.

This is meant to be an improvement to what is already there and not intended to take anything away. A more advanced crew/officer system, if you like. As I mentioned several times, this is only a line of thought that I've thrown out there, after all, an important function of this forum is the free exchange of ideas... is it not?

If the idea is popular enough then maybe it can be developed and eventually incorporated into the game. If unpopular well then it won't proceed. Sure, not everyone likes all aspects of the build, so, many of these mods are made to be togglable. If possible the same could apply here. If you don't like it don't use it, however I think there would be many shipmates out there who would at least like the option.

I appreciate your opinion in this regard, however, let us all at least keep an open mind and remain, if not positive and supportive, then at least tactfull in our replies when people are exchanging ideas on this forum.

Cheers, mate. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I don´t know what are you talking about. I have the same privilage to express my opinion as you have. So that, if you say I like it, so, I say I don´t like it. Nothing more. There is no need to mention tacktfulness because I didn´t tell anything which would be tactless. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Hey, matey,

In no way do I deny the same privilege for you to express your opinion. As I said, I appreciate your opinion and welcome all views whether they agree or not. My initial impression was that your reply lacked a certain tact, however, if I've misinterpreted the tone and intent of your reply then that's my mistake and I do apologize.

Mate, I'm not looking for arguments on this forum so let's let this one go and let's sail on and hopefully continue to find better ways to enjoy this gaming experience. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

A round of rum with you, sir. My shout. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Cheers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Thanks Jack. I really didn´t want to hurt you or invade you or anything similar. You know I am playing this game from it´s beginning So, I would dare to tell I know it already quite well. And in the course of the Builds´ development some mods was good some worse and some bad as it is always in the course of development of anything. Once, if many things wasn´t adjustable yet I can´t even play and fight further because I couldn´t replenish my crew because of some restrictions in taverns what about crew concern another time my crew disappeared because of shortage od wheat and I couldn´t replenish it because it wasn´t in stores in demanded quantity ( I had 3 MOW and almost 3000 crew members) and so on and many others. Or another time my ship always fired immediatelly in the course of any fight and instead of figthing I had to only extinguish her again and again. It has been all those restricitve mods which somehow hamper the smoothness of the the game and somehow restricted it. So that generally I like all the mods that somehow evolve the game and not restrict it anyhow already. There are many restrictions in the game already, and they rather bother the playing instaed of enhancing it. IMO the essence of this game still lies on see figthing and I think it should be fluent without any hindering and restrictions including development of characters. I would very appreciated if anybody realized some new good story and for the game. Sometimes between modders and players are some discrepancies because their interests aren´t quite the same in some cases . I don´t know if I have expressed clearly what I wanted to say but maybe you will understand me a little. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Hey, no worries, matey. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
