Really? It's that simple? Coooool <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

As far as I can tell from examining AoP screenshots and converted AoP ships from Build Mod, lamp models themselves have no bearing whether ships is lighted or not - it's the locators from the main model that tell the game where to put lights.
There seem to be two new types of locators: <b>flares</b>, which dictate where are the "running lights" on top of the masts, and <b>lights</b>, which dictate where lights are.
Tell you what: Open <i>Pearl</i> with TOOL, export locators, open them in Notepad, and add this at the end:
lights,l003,1,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,1,1.6,13,-23,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,
lights,l002,1,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,1,0,13.5,-23.3,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,
lights,l001,1,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,1,-1.6,13,-23,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,
lights,l004,1,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,1,1.6,7.5,-10.7,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,
lights,l005,1,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,1,-1.6,7.5,-10.7,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,
Then, save the file, import locators in TOOL, save and run AoP in night. I hope you'll see lights <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
