AI ships use False Flags ?

Doesn't work? DRAT! Well, at least you've been able to reproduce the problem. That's something already, isn't it...? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

It seems you wrote your message as the time i wrote my last one Pieter <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Did you see my last post ?

Well, seems I wrote another stupidity. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> What kind of idiot I'm <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Indeed I had missed that, Screwface! That would explain a LOT! Also why I never really saw any of the RN navy ships being properly used.
This is going to make the game feel <i>sooo</i> much better! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I agree with Pieter <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
My Modification of Force_GetshipType function i wrote above in the post was more a stupidity and didn't fix anything <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

..........Then when the game could search in that array for the ship type and thus never return a ship from a wrong nation.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I thought the Dutch built the best ships in the 17century (warship and merchant) and whenever the English captured one they gave it an english name and gratefully used it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

I think the same was also the case with the French whose ship design was better than the english in the 18century, so the english did the same again.

Ships were very valuable, if you captured one and it was still usable you renamed it and used it. Therefore the naval and merchant fleets of any country would contain ships designed and built in different countries. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

Of course pirates would use whatever they could get their hands on. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />

That's a good point but when a ship was captured by an enemy nation, she was surely repainted with colors of the nation before to be include in his fleet.

The problem of the bug was that you could meet in game english ships with the textures of dutch or french ships, not the design. There is probably a same design ship type with the english textures in the game so that's this last one which have to be used under english flag

Of course realism would suggest that Dutch ships would be used by the British as well, but as Screwface says, they'd be repainted first.
Not all ships have got a different-nations repaint, though, but many do.
Whatever the case, there's just certain ships that I don't want to see used by the wrong nation.
Even if realism means that should be possible, for gameplay purposes I like it better if you can recognize a ship's nation by type and colour scheme. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Oops! It looks like we we have a small diffference over personal preferences.

Why would the ships be repainted just because they had been captured?
A repaint would surely have been a major operation and only been done if the ship needed major repairs to make her seaworthy. If after capture no, or only minor, repairs were needed, then she would not be repainted, at least not until she called at a major dockyard for an overhaul.

The main means of ship identification was the flags/colours that they flew. Thats why those who flew false flags were not liked. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

As I say it is just a matter of personal choice. I do not mind seeing a ship painted in Dutch colours flying an English or Spanish flag, it just means that that ship has been captured from the Dutch, and if it might inspire me to capture it back. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

If it were just for realism's sake, I might be inclined to agree with you. But for gameplay purposes,
I'd like to have as many ways as possible of recognizing which nation a ship belongs to, even before my spyglass or the flag tells me.
And as far as I'm concerned, there's just certain ship/nation-combinations that would be too weird.
Imagine the USS Constitution under Spanish flag. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

In any case, if you want national ships to be used by other nations too, I'll tell you how you can do that.
Then you can have the game the way you like. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
