Active Promotion and Recruiting on Other Sites

We need to get MORE people to know about our project!
But the chance of people stumbling onto us at random is pretty small, even if we do post frequent news articles.
So what we need to do is to ACTIVELY seek out sites to post about our work.

There have already been discussions about us on the CryDev and SubSim websites.
It would be a good thing to have things a bit more active there, with actual PiratesAhoy! members posting there.

Once we have a new Development Trailer done and the Tech Demo Requirements posted,
I reckon we should also send messages to all sorts of major gaming websites.

What we are trying to accomplish is not a small niche project;
eventually we want it to reach the size of games like Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
But it'll be better. And also free. So a lot of sites should be able to bring up interest for us.

So what sites should we approach? And who is willing to join in doing this?

I have built a little community on my YouTube channel that is really into simulation games. I think between myself and my subs we could get some exposure on a number of sim sites, mainly SimHQ. Also if we hit any forums and fansites that are big into AC4 a post there would bring a lot of curious people.
 
Would it be alright for me to use the screenshots and videos in any YouTube videos I might make? I was going to throw together a video for my channel explaining what the game is and how people can get involved. Also have you guys thought about getting this game listed on Steam Early Access or Desura? Both places will give you a lot exposure and its more likely a big YouTuber will come across it.

Is that also for free non-commercial games? And how far in development do we need to be for that to be possible?
 
I would think we wouldn't want to submit to anything until we are closer to tech demo ability. I really hate games that are exposed WAY too early. We have at the least a year or more of development and that is too much to be trying to pass this off as a playable near alpha. Just my .02.
 
True, that. We can advertise just fine, but actually submitting our game on Desura/Steam might be better left until later.
Still a good idea, though.
 
If we entered a special phase or have something good to tell I could hook you up with one of the writers at insidegamer.nl . He is a friend of mine and would probally wanna do a little interview with you then or something like that.
I think other gaming websites would also wanna feature you if you really have something special to tell. Just be patient untill there really is something to show.
 
If we post more progress or more screenshots it becomes more popular by itself I think. Make it nice, so people tell eachother about the game.

I have updated the opening post with all mentioned links so that we will not forget.

So.... anyone up to the task of posting something on those spots again?
Some of them have recently been updated. But some others.... not so much.
And some are just other people talking about us, but not us talking with them.

Edit: I also added various sites where we are mentioned that I found through a Google search.
Perhaps worth approaching those as well!

Now that our first Weekly Progress Update has been posted, we have to ensure as many people as possible get to see it!
Who is up for posting about it on the pages from the opening post? And perhaps others too?
