    modeling 3d in SketchUp

Hmm, as ship modeling coordinator I would recommend you stick to smaller objects for now, and then in a little bit we might see about finding a ship for you to build.:keith All of our ships are highly detailed, historically accurate, and built from plans which generally I assign or suggest among...

Good thinking! It's always nice to see that we have such a solid reputation :)

    Hi, I'm a 3d modeller.

Ahoy there, and welcome!:ahoy Looks like the Greyhound/Blandford to me! Or maybe a Spanish 6th rate designed by Jorge Juan? While 1720 might be a tad early, you have a really good start! any chance you could post wireframes? the tutorial that armada posted is a good comprehensive overview of all...

    Paused Bava's HMS Southampton-32 guns, 1757

Ashi, will your computer troubles postpone this? If it does, I might hold off on separating shrouds, because the Southampton herself might be much closer to being ready by the time you're back up and running

    Modeling Application

Hmm, unfortunately I'm not quite familiar enough with blender to know the problem. I might try setting up support groups for various modeling programs within the team, so hopefully someone will be able to help you. Unfortunately one of our most well-known blender artists, Bava, is on hiatus...

hmm, well I can say from the experience of placing shrouds, its more complex than it looks, there is quite a bit of curvature involved in every direction...but then again I'm not familiar with the tools in-engine, so I'll leave it up to your judgment. I'll see what I can do about uploading the...

Ok sounds like a plan. I'd like to finish the beams first, but with a deadline if the next couple days. Also, the shrouds I used on Southampton are from the FTP, should be in Wedori's ship parts folder, if you want to play around with sticking those on the Sphynx.

Hmm, I'm nearing another update, just want to finish getting the beams and knees under the f'csle and quarterdeck first. The rest of the gun deck interior is physically complete, including cabin and quarter galleries. Otherwise I'm missing a few details like anchors, rudder chains, and a few...

    Modeling Application

If you extruded the hull for thickness, maybe it breaks previous modifications? Are you using booleans? What program are you using? pics would help. I built a 3d model of the Essex myself, so I'm certainly familiar with the vessel. :yes However, seeing as she isn't from the 7yw era, could a...

    Recruiting Professionals

Pieter did actually add me to the promotional team PM, so despite not being a top dawg I have some relevance. I can look into some of the sites and try to figure out what might be appropriate, but there's a good chance I won't have time to write much of anything until next week

I'll definitely consider it! For someone who is a developer for a video game, I know surprisingly little about the latest advances for the computers themselves.:modding So it's a good of a place to start as any!:dance

L' Hermione Update, Voyage 2015 and Beyond!

The original was quite a good sailer, here is a quote from Jean Boudriot's History of the French Frigate: "The frigates built by Chevillard Jr. Were excellent, as we learn from the reports on the Aurore, Gracieuse, & Hermione. They answered the helm better than most, carried their sail well...

Alas my computer/ graphics card is not powerful enough. :modding I suppose that's what I get for modeling on a quite basic dell laptop. :facepalmPerhaps I should see about upgrading my desktop, it'll certainly be necessary at some point in regards to HoO.

Hey all! Another update on the Southampton here. I’ve added the chainplates with corresponding shrouds and deadeyes, the capstan, stove, gratings, wheel, and pinrails. I will be adding a file for belaying pins on the FTP parts library with at least an LOD 0 and LOD 1. I’ve had to make an odd...

    Competition?

Don't worry, we have known about them for quite some time!:) http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/naval-action-open-world-multiplayer-rpg.20616/#post-451909 It is an MMO, and thus there are many differences from what we are trying to do. While there is some overlap, we are on amicable terms and...

L' Hermione Canon Confusion Cleared Up!

As much as I'd like to see her included, more like the one after it ...she and the other french 12pdr 36s of 1779 were a fair bit larger and more powerful than earlier 12pdr designs, with the exception of a few one-off designs like the Danae. A lot of stylistic anachronisms as well for the...

    Paused Bava's HMS Southampton-32 guns, 1757

Indeed it is hard to believe! Especially considering she was in the Caribbean in 1812, I shudder to think of the decimation had she run into one of the American 44s and tried to put up a resistance. But yes, a similarly long and illustrious career to the Surprise, despite being entirely...

    L' Hermione Armed and Dangerous!

It's possibly for extra space in cabins? The original vessel should've had 26 x 12pdrs and up to 16x6pdrs. 6x6pdrs might've been the official number, but when there was the space, gunports, and tonnage (as is certainly the case with hermione) captains often added more guns on the quarterdeck and...

Ahoy all! Recently I have been occupied with finishing up Bava's HMS Southampton, which was begun long ago: http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/the-hms-southampton.16490/ The Southampton was designed by Thomas Slade, and was one of two prototype British classes of 12pdr 32 gun frigate, (the...
