    Music in the Golden Age

Just saw a very interesting documentary featuring Jean Baptiste Lully and his life at the court of Louis XIV on arte and I thought it would be a good idea to post some music videos of my two favourite baroque composers, Lully and Charpentier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu_5p400SeQ...

    WIP HMS Phoebe 1795

Here´s a project I´ve been working on the last couple of days (about 12 hours total for this one), HMS Phoebe, a ship with a pretty interesting history. She´s been present at Trafalgar, captured Africaine, Nereide and, most notably, USS Essex in the War of 1812. Dimensions: Length of Gundeck...

    Kees the Devil

Ditto! :yes I´d love to see a well-researched book or movie about the first black commissioned officer in the RN, John Perkins. Dozens of ship to ship actions, espionage, last second escape before execution...almost too good to be true!

    Released USS Constitution upgrade

I would say leave it as is. There´s simply no way to tell how Conny exactely looked like in 1812. Sure, there are paintings/drawings of her during her famous actions but you´d always have to ask: Are they contemporary? And if they are: What are the arstist sources for the painting (Corne's...

    Released USS Constitution upgrade

Thank you for the citations! Very interesting, 24 pounders on such a 'little' ship... no wonder they replaced them. back to topic: Found this plan today http://dl.dropbox.com/u/74304344/Plans/Fisgard (Resistance) 1800-1.jpg Fifth Rate Fisgard, never seen such lines before...

Guide Selected ship plans, plan websites, and other resources

Made a mistake, the 137 feet in Boudriots book are pieds du roi, not imperial feet, so it`s the same vessel :doh But it should be a 12 pounder frigate. Did Gardiner cite any source for the heavier armament? :) The only other 24-pounder + frigates around 1780 I know are the South Carolina and...

Guide Selected ship plans, plan websites, and other resources

Yes, thats the one :) But the length of 150 feet on threedecks.org seems to be wrong. There´s an Aigle built in 1778 in History of the French Frigate with 137 feet, which is much more believeable. And youre spot on with the lines, Sané designed a "master-plan" for frigates in....uhm, 1774 IIRC...
