Your experiences from playing Build 13 full.

So far so good I finished the game and started a new one on a higher diff level....I defected to Portugal...or at least got a letter of Marque from the Gov. But I DID GO TO REDMOND TO SEE THE GOV...HE IGNORED THE PORTUGESE lom....so I will go back and report my pirate sinkings and see whats up...

I did notice the slow motion thing on occasion...meh ..I just toggled R - until it stopped.

No crashes...some collision issues though walking or sliing through walls and such..but overall ..

AWSOME .

Petros, I tried to wait patiently but I wait in Havana port maybe several minutes and vainly. So, I had to load the game. I think It would be quite useful to find out what causes that and try to remove or reduce this freezing. But I admit it could be some extreme bad luck or chance in this concrete case in Havana that won´t be repeating. I will see further. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

We should try to figure out exactly when these freezes occur and we should try to get people to confirm them. Who experiences these problems? How long are the freezes? How frequently? Any idea why they occur? Could it have something to do with what you were doing before the freeze occurred? Do the freezes always happen?

No prob, mate, was just asking! Could I help in any way with this project?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Not really. The files are scattered through several e-mails in my inbox and they're not Build 13 compatible either. So I would first have to actually find all files again and then make them Build 13 compatible as well. The first part of that MUST be done by either me or Maximus, because we're the only people who have the files. Making them Build 13 compatible can be done by other people if they have coding knowledge. But it'd probably be quicker if I or Maximus does that as well, because uploading the files takes <i>aaaages</i>. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

the portugese are friends with all the nations. except the pirates of course. it's not surprising that nobody becomes hostile if you join someone, because what a letter of marque actually is, is a document that protects you from other nations. if you get attacked by a nation, you get help from the nation you belong to. it basically disencourages other nations from attacking you, because they would be at war with the nation that is protecting you. they can expect an enemy fleet coming there way if they harm you. it's simply a safeguard. also, you can get rewards from the nation your allied with, in this case land.

There's not much point in getting a Portuguese Letter of Marquee, because Portugal is at war with only the pirates. Meaning that if you want to increase your rank with Portugal, you can only sink pirates and you don't get many "rank points" for sinking pirates. It is better to join the Dutch, English or French, because these are all at war with each other, so you can also attack the other nations' warships and trading vessels. That enables you to gain ranks much more quickly.

If you have a Letter of Marquee and you are flying your own personal flag, everybody will act towards you based on your own personal relations. That means that if you have a Portuguese LoM and are personally at war with France, the French will still be at war with you. If you now also raise a Portuguese flag, the French will usually be fooled into thinking you are actually Portuguese and they'll leave you alone. However, if you fly anything but your own colours, there is always the risk that other nations will recognize you for who you are and if you are personally at war with you, they might attack you even though you are flying Portuguese colours.

When game starts the window with picture opens where is the headline Loading Community Build 13.....with ship and fort and below is Image by Captain Sir Henry Morgan. But I think this picture originates from Sea Dogs. So, I don´t know then. Wouldn´t be better to write nothing here what about author concerns?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I can't remove that text anyway. And Captain Sir Henry Morgan did do some work on it: He added the Pirates of the Caribbean text onto the loading screen.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I agree with Rad, I would prefer the Seadogs image without the 'Image by Captain Sir Henry Morgan' text. Or written smaller. Adding the Pirates of the Caribbean text isn't such a great work to justify this, no offend attempted.

Why the Portuguese aren't at war with Hollandese? I thought they didn't stop fighting, in Brasil and Angola for exemple, and basicly in every part of the world?

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> Well, went to some of the New Islands and found St. Johns on Antigua the best
and Philipsburgh on St. Martin close second except the traders are still on holydays, but one
has to have something to complain about. So, well done!!
Santo Domingo is not too bad and the last one, Tortuga is as hostile as ever!!
Even so I am friendly with the French! It is french, is it not? Too many cannonballs
flying my way to notice! Been playing the game for a few hours now and had only
minor setbacks and no crashes!!! I'm reading that some people having issues
with that and it could have other origins than the game itself! Maybe the Installation
or a Windows,Hardware issue!? I play with the Building set off and in Arcade Mode!
I realy enjoy the game, not like AOP which is a pain in the you know what! Crashes
galore! What a relief to have PotC to go back to! Cheers everybody!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Hi, Nosie. No freezing? You have buildings set off, I have them set in, maybe it could be some clue for some problems with freezing ? And what about boarding and taking ships with patch 1? Everything works well for you here? No problems? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

First off, congrats on the new build, been here many times as an observer and frequently played earlier builds... especially build12.1.
However...lol after downloading and playing build 13 for about 40 hours {had the day off} with all mods on and all realistic settings on and a very large inventory, and about to set sail for Khael the game would constantly crash when first loading up the boarding screen, i would see the ship loaded then a terminal crash with a fatal error i.e. complete shutdown and reboot <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> this happened also on some occasions when entering the sea map when about to travel to a new island. This happened regardless of which save i used, freezing was minimal but i do have a 2.8mhz and 1 gig ram, no background programs. The Mephisto quest was completed with all stock quests complete with no trouble. Only had one ship in use and only Danielle as a companion with 4 other officers as passengers. The trouble was rectified with a fresh re-install but would happen again after a few more boardings useing the same saves. Everthing else in the game still worked fine, and i love what has been done to the game. BUT because of the terminal nature of the shutdowns i have gone back to build12.1 which has never crashed once on me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ps..... i know nothing about programming so please dont ask me to turn on error logs.. lol .. i have since binned those saves and un-installed build 13 for the time being....... but it was great and i thoroughly enjoyed it, great work guys.......pps i was useing the standard Hawk skin...

Can you tell me how did your crashes look like? What happened with your game exactly? Did the blue screen of death appear or anything different? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Hi, the computer simply shutdown and rebooted and went into the disc scan check routine to verify no damage to the drives, and then finally to the normal windows boot-up... no warning of the crash or anything else bud, thats why i described it as "fatal" lol...... that help ?

Feel free to make that change yourself, but I don't know how to do that. I can't remove texts from pictures.

To Nosie: Tortuga is a pirate island.

To Hawkwind: WOW! That's odd. Never heard such reports before. At least not about SUCH bad crashes. PotC shouldn't make your entire computer reboot! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Where are you from Hawkwind if it isn´t secret ? I mean from what country? And please have a look at my new post what about freezing statistics concerns. I wrote here something about crashing of the game because of adjusting sound at sound cards. Maybe you could find out something useful that I wrote there. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Yo Rad, did read that section but none of it applied, not only that but sound was one of the things i did'nt change.. lol ... and i don't use imported sound mods <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> and its the standard european version and no its not a secret, i live in the good old lake district. I did read elsewhere about memory leakage but the forum dried up on the subject, i thought this might have been relevant as the problem would be fixed for a short while with a complete re-intall {clean stock game upon which build 13 was placed} but after a few more boardings it would again start terminally crashing with a computer reboot <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Bearing in mind that it was after 40 hours of playing and i was doing random boardings on the way to Khael with a whole load of inventory items the sale of which did'nt resolve the issue. I'm quite content to wait for build14 as i have faith that along the way the problem will fix itself <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> {i have plenty of faith lmao } but in case i missed something i will recheck the freezing topic <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there, long time no see.

I just want to pay my respect to all involved in the current Build Mod.
I once was "more active" here a long time ago and can say without a doubt: This is the BEST incarnation of the game EVER. OK it can be tweaked and optimised here and there like always but it was such a HUGE Task you all undertook to make the community happy. I could not belive what you have accomplished and after the dissapointing AoS i finally found my home again. New islands, ships, skins (By God even my old navy Uniforms are still in <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" /> ), textures, trade and economy, just unbelivable.

Well and besides that I found no bug or freeze since my first time with this Mod. (Just for information, I play without the building Mod off and with arcade style, shame on me) But I only played till the end of the oxbay occupation till now. Again many thanks from me, for creating my personal carribean treasure home. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> cheers

my computer reboots all the time. it happens no matter what i have running. with PotC, it either CTD's or my computer reboots. i can rarely play for more than an hour, so i have great difficulties with defeating the black pearl, or finishing any other sea-battle. luckily, sea-battles never last very long if i'm involved. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

And please DO post your error logs, or at least the last 20 entries. PotC usally freezes if the C code tries in vain to find a missing attribute or variable, which will be reported in the error.log. Or if the engine tries to find a texture or model that isn't there, which is reported in the system.log. With such reports a bug might be found in minutes. But without such data all we can do is guesswork on hearsay.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Nosie, great that you liked the towns. One question: were the new buildings there or did the towns look like stock models? And which setting did you use to disable the Building set? Not that I mind <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> , I only would like to know if the reason for the freezes could be there.

A computer spontaneously rebooting is a sign of a power supply going out. You'll most often see this happen during a game. Later it can get more frequent. My latest computer would reboot *during* a reboot just before I replaced the power supply.

I've replaced many power supplies. The brand of computer I use ships with cheap power supplies that go out after 6 months of leaving the computer running 24/7. You can check to see if your current power supply smells burned, and if it does (and you're getting reboots) then it's a candidate for replacement.

A good power supply should cost around or under $100. Antec is a good brand. Get a slightly higher rated power supply than the one that's in the machine now, and make sure it's the same type. ATX for my computer, for example. I replaced a 350W with a 430W Antec and the reboots went away. The next size up was 650W, but that was $50 more and would have been overkill.
