I was having another look at the Worthplaying quick preview of East India Company from GDC. The article itself is quite generic using information that is generally common knowledge. One part however confirms something that you would have presumed would have been in automatically, trade routes, but upon reflection I'm now wondering how they will go about it. If you remember Patrician, when your trade ship was attacked you had the choice of going and controlling the battle. In that whole series you played a god almost looking down on your empire, will EIC be the same way or do you travel with a fleet yourself and only get news of attacks on your tradelanes?

East India Company also features other bells and whistles, such as the ability to assign certain ships to certain trade routes, thus reducing micromanaging, as well as ports and specialists, who can improve the attributes of your fleet. This is one we can't wait to get our hands on, and in preparation, we've been brushing up on our sea shanties and loading barrels full of limes. All other salty sea dogs are advised to do the same.
