Winds of the Caribbean

When I'm sailing the Caribbean <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />, the wind blows west all the time. It never seemes to change. Always to the west. This makes sailing west go quite fast, but sailing east is rahter slow.

I was wondering if this is just a problem in my game or are the winds like this in every game. If so, do you have any tips for me to go faster when sailing east?

regards,
Oli Palli

Welcome aboard mate,Aye, de winds alays blow tew de west,ye can get upgrade fer yer ship, cotton sails so yer ship sails faster, when sail'n East,Tack at a angle fer extra speed.quickest wat tew yer destination not always be a straight line <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

The caribbean trade winds blow towards west (easterly winds) during all seasons.

Some advice:

1. Never sail directly into the wind. In all of the ships, that is the slowest point of sail.

2. Follow the historical routes, sail west in the southern caribbean and east in the northern caribban. That makes it a bit easier as the winds in the north give you more possibilities for tacking.

Yup, know your vessel's best point of sail and steer accordingly. Also keep an eye on the wind at all times, because it doe not always blow straight from the east.

And don't expect slow ships like Merchantmen and Galleons to go too fast in any case.

Aye Royal Sloop wid cotton sails 'elps wid speedier sail'n <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt going through the storms and white clouds make your ship go faster regardless of direction?

Aye, seems dat way, matey! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Gotta love those strong headwinds brought on by storms. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Yes, but they make you faster still if you don't sail directly in the direction they're blowing from.

Depends upon the ship you have, too. If you have a ship that can run into the wind (brig, brigantine, war brig), you will have better acceleration for slingshot course changes off the front end of a storm. If you have a ship that can run before the wind (i.e., frigate, large frigate, SOTL), you will be able to do a slingshot acceleration and course change *after* the storms. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
