why is the game soooooooo slow?

Sometimes when out in open sea i can sail fast but for the most part it takes forever to sail into a town especially when the wind is against you. is there a way to tell the game to just sail fast all the time. in port royal my pinnace would sail smooth and fast all the timer making it nice to go from town to town. but if i'm in st.kitts and have to go to puerto bello to look for my sister i dread this thought because i can usually sail there semi quick but the return is agonzingingly slow.

thrn in battler, i have a sloop of war and i can't understand why it takes forever to turn ther ship around, its so amazingly slow. i hate it when i try to turn and it won't like the wind is pushing my boat the other way then i have to mash the #6 on my keypad to force it to turn.

is there a way to make the game move the ships across the sea faster? its not my PC i have a fast machine, its jsut for some reasdon some battles and most are way too slow, i wisdh the battles and sailing would be like in port royale game where things were faster.

i find myself sitting at the pc just waiting and waiting, i go to the kitcken to geta drink, come back and my boat has taken like a month to go from one town to another that is not that far. for example traveling from san juan to st.martin can take me a very long time because i guess the wind is pushing me back but this makes the game super annoying because i sit there waiting and waiting.

the most enfuriating part is when i have a sloop of war and bigger boats can go faster than me. i have 80 crew so my boat can eb manned properly but i can'tr begin to undersatnd what makes this game fun if one has to have soooo much patience. some is okay but this is beyond me...if this gam,e played faster like port royale it would rock.

i just can't play the game anymore, does no one else think that the boats sailing is so horribly slow, and in battle also?
could it be a bug in the game, Sid, if ya reading this, please add a patch where you can toggle full speed all the time instead of having a boat sit out at sea inching its way at mega slow speeds. make it so the sails smooth at least, who cares about your ultimate realism, i'd rather plunder and loot as many towns as i can after i get home from work, i dont want to sit at my desk watching my ship just sit int he sea and not move because the winds have died down. stupid and makes the game too boring.

i had huge hopes and some things are great but the original pirates was never this slow to sail from one town to another. you messed up big time, patch it!!!

I also thinks that the ships goes too slow and the time rushes by. One time I had to go from far west to far east and it took me over 6 months. The Caribbean is really not that huge. If I had the stamina I would swim that distance faster. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I hope to god he doesn't change the sailing speed to being the same speed all the time, but I do hope he makes a patch where it makes you sail a wee bit faster against the wind. I know its's realistic, but being this realistic is just plain boring. It should be more difficult to sail to the east, but it should be at least a wee bit easier than it is now.

Fred Bob hain't be findin' de eastward sailin' as a big problem as he imagined from de posts. He jus' be tackin' slightly starboard or port o' wind's eye an' de ship increases speed markedly, especially wid a Sloop o' War, which be lovin' tew sail into de wind! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Hi fellows i indeed to agree but it really dont enjoys me so much as it's realistic indeed. But what i really dont like is the speed of the days and then months it flys away to fast for our Pirate and i also would like to have day and night cycle on the big sail world not only in battles, also later on our crew man gets angry alot faster if we havent rob any gold for some period.. Yes i know about the speciel skills also speciel Crews like Quarterman or the music instruments.

But i really would like to sail around for a bet longer with my crew and get older alot slower so i can do all my mission in a slow path with out getting nervoies all the time and after around `30-40` months at see divide the plunder. Thats to me is boring due to that the days goes away to fast for us.

The secound thing about the wind you fellows are talking about i have noticed that the AI cheats againts us... I can bloody be really sure on this lol or it's just me? I been playing it for hours and hours and always looking on the wind that it's againts me as soon i turn my ship againts the enemy in battles... and it blows stright at me. Always when trying to get that surrended ship the Wind switch againts my ship in a secound just to play devils dance with me.. so i have to sick zack for a minute just to get that ship... or in the huge map sailing when trying to enter a port not so far away... But when the computer notice you heading in a stright line for that port.. you see in exact secound that the wind blow red arrow.. changing the wind direction just to get you in the damn evil dance with you.

And that most of the things that pissing me of <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> So that the only few things i dont like about the game.... and the new and other things can be enjoying too but that is really not so importent just a part of a game..

But i really hope that we can sail for a long time to make us feel that it's our world for sure and that we dont have to divide the plunder very soon and retire at age 44 that happend in few hours before.

Please give us our time and life back like in the org Sid :) And if the wind god cheating againts us? Make him happy towards us most of the time.

Cheers

A N.

Well, ok, I'm not the only one who thinks the cpu makes the sailing painfully slow. I too feel the computer is playing devils advocate as I can the wind goes against me in battle. It would nice if sid made the sailing a bit faster because to travel east can take too long even if I zig zag. The point is the game should be fun as right now I find it tedious because its painfully slow to sail to the east, and in battle I hate it when the winds dies down....why does the wind always have to die off, to me it seems there is just not enough wind in battle, hence slow tedious battles that become annoying.

I haven't had any slow and tedious battles thus far, but, then again, I sail on a Royal sloop, which is never slow... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

And although I disagree with the notion of making sailing eastwards easier, I agree that it should not take 6 months game time. That is way too long by any account.

It seemed to me that sometimes the game slows down too much for no reason. Even sailing west I will get into a battle and the ship will be going very slow. Even the cannonballs fly slower. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> I think it might be a bug or mabye just my comp but it definetly slows down.

There are 2 bugs that I found so far:

1) The game paradoxically slows down when it zooms in, and speeds up when it zooms out. As I've said it should be the other way around to account for parallex error.

2) The vga settings and choice of ship interacts in a weird way. On maximum settings on my 9600xt Radeon, the ships move slowly but the time goes very quickly. On moderate to minimal settings, the (any!) ship moves quicker but the time goes more slowly. Again paradoxical to reality.

Looks like they messed up on some of the physics/logic of the game. The game is also a `resource-hog` from the `zoom-in` bottlenecks probably from buggy programming. For now I would try to minimize your vga settings to see if it will go faster.

@v4pirate: About your point 1: Firaxis did that on purpose. When zooming in and slowing down, also the game time slows down (no longer 1 day/second). This gives you a chance for more careful manoeuvering etc.

I seem to remember that they had a fancy name for this feature, but I cannot remember what it was... Something about time being something... The main thing is that the time does not flow at the same speed at all times.
