What to do with a featureless treasure map?

I got the full map of Monty hideout, but it was 95% landmass, and the only small bay on the top does not have and identifiable reference points on it (like Capitain Head, Powder Reef or something). Of course I managed to find the point by a carpet search, but it was so tiring that it almost destroyed all pleasures playing this game. Do you have any better ideas for it?

(I do not know how to attached a picture, or I can show you the map)

Maybe our Master Navigator "GI Joe" could help you if he had some time. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

`Land-Searching` is the most tedious part of the game. I spent about an hour each day for 3 days looking for the character's Uncle. I seemed to be going in circles all that time and I couldn't find any leads, so I gave that up eventually. Although I did came up with a method that helps: If you save the game while you're on land, then check out that save, it marks your location on the map so you know you're in the right vicinity. You could also `check-out` what areas you were already in. That might be a little cheesy though, so it's up to you.

I hope that helps.

On a related note, what are peoples experiences with maps with no X? I know the area it is in - I have lots of land marks and so forth (and even an indian settlement on the map!) so I can find the area perfectly, but my (admitedly incomplete and random) carpet search has yielded nothing.

Are the targets always within the area of the map, even if they do not have an X on them, or are they nearby, or what?
