What is "divide the plunder"?

I don't know much about pirates. So, what is divide the plunder?
And about the game, when my fleet become sad, do i must divide the plunder and "kill" one year of my life?

Well, those pirates you've been 'recruiting' didn't sign on for nothing, they want loot! And lots of it!

Dividing the plunder keeps your pirates happy, and prevents them from running away. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Don't know if they can mutiny though...

But this is the only way to make them happy? because that way i', loosing all my ships except the flagship, and a lot of money.

You don`t loose any money. The money that you have been aquiring belongs to the ship, not you. When you devide the plunder you as well as your crew gets their share. The main ways to keep the crew happy is to keep the loot coming in. However you need to get larger and larger amounts as time goes on until the only way to get a happy crew is to devide and start over.

Also, as you gain ranks as a pirate from dividing plunder, your share of the plunder increases. (I think up to 50%).

Ye can get items frem de mysterious stranger dat 'elp keep yer crew 'appy on dem long voyages,ye don't need tew divide de plunder until yer first mate tells ye tew <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

A few factors to keep in mind about divide and plunder (and general crew content)

1. The older you become, the less crew will join you. Watch your health, you will eventually be forced to retire.

2. Medicine and herbs can extend your lifetime, but again, your crew will be more likely to leave you and join a younger captain as you get up there in years.

3. Feed em sea cows! Trade Galleons are a great way to appease the gold lust of your men. When sailing across the ocean, attack every other sea cow (trade galleon) in sight! Don't keep the ships, only the loot.

4. Luxuries and a thrifty captain make for a happy crew. If you go to town and buy every diamond necklace and upgraded sword you come across, your men will grow restless and want their share as well. Plus, keeping some luxuries onboard will pacify them, or so it seems.

5. They like to dance! Don't forget, for those long voyages, nothing beats a good jig to raise the spirits. Some strangers sell the Concertina, the ultimate in pirate pacivity. Nothing tames a wild beast like a good drinking tune! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
