What I would like to see in the new Builds

Rad

Privateer
I would like to humbly express my personal wishes and desires for what I would like to see in the next Builds, if I would may do it here.

1. Reworking of the shipyards´ interface so as more ships were for option of buying. There are very much ships already in various variations and because of they can´t be all concurrently here, the chance for buying for example of Manowar is quite low. Nathan advised me and I removed some ships from the selection for buying but I consider it some preliminary and temporary solution only.

2. Removing of the original Manowar from the game. Her appearence is much worse than the new designs and for that reasson I think old design is superfluous here already. The new ones are all excellent. Improving some appearances of some ships especially galleons and caravels. I wrote somewhere else already what I don´t like on them. Replacing the current Line ships and War ships with completely new designs. Those ships really aren´t good, their shapes of hulls and paintings.

3. Reworking of the tailor mod so as only suits were changed here not all the figure of Nathaniel Hawk. I tried to use this mod but in the end I always ended at original Nathaniel appearance because of his good manly figure and broad shoulders. All another options looked somehow punily. It would be suffice to put for example only some 3 new suits here for the first moment and they could be replenish continuously.

4. Putting at all the taverns, stores, shipyards, blacksmiths and tailors well visible doorplates so as nobody hadn´t to look them desperately. Those name plates could be even some good artworks here. It could be nice. Not have them in some cases isn´t amusing but bothering.

5. Concentrating on making up and realizing of some new good and more complicated, thrilling or funny quests which would extend and enrich the game. Even some puzzles could be added into any of them.

6. Improving of some current quests especially their threads so as they would be more apparent from one step to another. Some quests are too difficult and hazy for playing and their hints are very vague and general here as it is in case of the quest with kidnapped children but in several another too.

7. Reworking of the dice to highly gambling game, so as it would have its place and substantiation even in the late stadium of the game. So as gambler could choose in menu in the course of talking with chalenger about what sum they would play if about 100, 1000, 10000, 100000, 1000000 gold, about their ships or even about all their fleets.

8. Extending of the quest with governor daughters so as Nathaniel would have to do some concrete tasks, for example sink concrete number of pirate ships or acquire some personal status. Maybe it works somehow here but it isn´t apparent anyhow. After Nathaniel wedding his wife could be kidnapped for high ransom by pirates, he could build their new home somewhere and even have a children.

9. Implementation of some conquering of the forts and towns as it is very well performed in Sea Dogs. This mater is completely missing in the game and Builds so far and it is very pitty. Some destroying of the fort by Nathaniel fleet could be very amusing and interesting.

10. Improving and extending of the brothel quests and issues. All this issues could be much more funny, amusing and more pronounced.

11. Extending of the using the ships cabin for some other activities, first for the sleeping, so as Nathaniel could sleep here and hadn´t to go to tavern if he would choose to stay on the board of his ship.

12. After landing at various deserted beaches and shores I would like so as the boat would lie on the sand and Nathaniel needn´t to wade in water to it. It looks very strange.

13. Adding of the further islands into the game with another towns and buildings but make up them completely newly so as they wouldn´t be some copies of the current ones. I know, you probaly tell me, it would be quite difficult but if anybody is able to make up such a beautiful ship as Manowar of Portuguese deign, so I think this person is definitely able to create some new island and some new town on it.

14. When any quest is finished perform that somehow very apparently in the game so as it would very obvious that the quest was finished. Some cutscene with hailing in the tavern or similarly and with some music fanfares or shooting into the ceiling in the tavern. The finishing of every quest is very lifeless and draggy.

15. Increasing of amount of wheat in the stores so as anybody could cruise the archipelago and find where would satiate the stomaches of ones 2500 crew members. It is really bothering. I don´t see any amusement in that. I know I can completely swich off this issue in the game and I did it for this time but I think it isn´t the best solution as well. There is a theory from some modders the lower population the smaller stock of wheat in stores, but it isn´t good theory because some little colony can be for its fertile soil a large producer and exporter of the wheat in the archipelago.

So, for this time I don´t have any further ideas. But if I will have some new idea I would continue in that if I would may. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Of course you may, and your ideas are surely great. If I were not already drowning in modwork I'd surely tackle some of them.
On the danger of repeating myself, Rad, you will have to learn modding <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I have to disagree with your first point about the shipyards.

I personally think that the shipyards sell enough ships as it is, and afterall it is not realistic for a small colony in the carribbean to be selling battleships and manowars. Ships like these should only be captured and they should be much more rare as well.

But my main point is that shipyards should have limits on the ships they produce, instead of expanding them.

Thank you Charles for your appreciation very much. I never had some desire to be a modder but who knows what will happen in the future? But I have quite litle time. I would be very glad if at least some my remarks would be relized in the future. I would be very glad. The dice issue could be quite funny if Nathaniel would lose all his fleet and had to star again from zero. But there had to be the real chance for winning too. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

All the problem is from what angle you are looking at all the PoTC. You probably look at it from the standpoint of some simulator, where the reality is a good thing but I am looking at it from the standpoint of the great amusing pirate game. By my opinion it isn´t any simulator and reality isn´t the main thing which I would prefer here. But anybody can have ones own opinion on this matter. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Naturally im not looking for an exact simulation in a computer game. If i wanted that id use me old time machine and go experience pirate life for real!

However to make a game thoroughly enjoyable there needs to be a challenge and a touch more realism will do this for me. It will be far more interesting for players to have to hunt out new ships on the high seas instead of simply buying them in the shop. Wheres the fun in that? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dp_nogd.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ng" border="0" alt="dp_nogd.gif" />

Afterall this is PIRATES of the carribbean, not MERCHANTS! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I think would like to have realistic boarding and even as many men as there are on my ship (like 100 menor so) , because boarding isnt interesting when there are only 5 or 6 men on each side.

it would be grate too if there would be a road which leads to the fort and i could attack the fort from the jungle.

'd like to see national soldiers replace the sailors in boarding fights and fort assualts when you get a Letter of Marque i'd also like to see the ability to buy a commision commanding infantry, cavalry and artillery for use on overland fort assualts and finally some unclaimed islands in the 'pelago for you to settle and build forts and towns and you could even choose the outfit for your nation's soldiers

Ideas are always welcome! And you've some fine ones indeed. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The problem is finding people with the time and inclination to implement them (assuming they're possible); and as CCC says, the quickest, best way is to do it yourself. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Simply saying "I'd like to see new ships / islands / quests" is well and good--most everyone feels that way!--but it doesn't make anything _happen_.

1. If you simply want more ships available in shipyards:
Open ShipsShips.c
Find:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->if(Rand(`7-iClass`)) { continue; }<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
And comment it out. Then all ships will be available (that can be bought--i.e. the ship's canBuy is not false).

2. What do you mean "new designs"?
You can of course remove whatever ships you like by setting the their CanEncounter flag to false. I agree with you that the BP and Fearless (lineship and warship) models don't look too good, but we don't have anything to replace them with.
I mean, I'd love new ship models too, but we don't really have that option--there aren't any yet.

3. Not possible the way the game is written. The only way to do this is to manually create new characters with the head you want and body you want, via Inez's tool, and add them all to the game.

4. I usually use Fast Travel, so this isn't an issue for me, but I agree it's a neat idea. IIRC Alan is the fellow to ask about adding models to locations.

5. As before, I too would love to see more quests--the problem is, the person to add them.

6. We've done some of that--check a recent thread by Cat on that very Children quest issue. If you have some specific cases, maybe we can do some specific things about them. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

7. As I've said before, this is a neat idea! And in fact this would be the _perfect_ place to learn modding, because the changes required are _very_ small. I'll be happy to help you learn how to do it, if you like.

8. As 5.

9. CCC's working on this, I believe, and I'm doing some work there too.

10. As 5.

11. In the thread on Health Realism we discussed sleeping, eating, and stamina. So even if there's nothing concrete yet, it's an issue that's definitely being thought about, yes.

12. This _may_ be a game issue (I don't know, but I _think_ ship models have to be on the water). However, using Alan's methods you could place the boat manually on the beach and then (using Inez's tool) remove the `on-the`-water boat locator, and move the reload locator up the beach.

13. What new MoW is this you speak of? I haven't heard of nor seen it, that I know of...
And in re: islands, as 5.

14. As 5.

15. Per the Town Economies thread, we're overhauling that whole system.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> That's the way, Rad, let us know what you think! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Some good ideas there, but as Nathan says, some of them are simply not able to be done without a lot of work - and everyone has their own ideas about what they wish to work upon...

Yes, I'm working to fix that Animist quest problem; been working recently, in fact. I've hit a snag, but I'll work my way through it, and it'll be hopefully in time for the next update! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Don't feel that modding is beyond you - MY modding mania began because I thought I'd like to have a `Celtic-themed` ship - so I experimented on the Lugger(CT) and finally painted up the XebecCT.

Then I started painting characters, and imported Maurikio from Sea Dogs into PotC for Fred Bob - and my Fred Bob quest took off from there!

The code is not as difficult as you might imagine; it's logical... Mostly... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Patience and a little help from some of the more experienced modders, and <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> here I am today, advising others how to start modding...

I always like to say that if someone as sometimes "thick" as I tend to be can do it, then ANYONE can do it! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Hi, Nathan and Catalina. Thanks for your willingness to help me in the modding issue. But as I told here I have little time for that so I never started with it. I would have to abandon some of my matters for that and I don´t want to do it. So, I think the time isn´t ripe for me yet. Maybe some day in the future. So, don´t consider my wishing as something cheeky, please. I wanted only express what I mean. I always meant even people who play and test these Builds and `Add-Ons` are quite important because they can discover some bugs and imperfections in the game. By the new designs of Manowars I meant all the Manowars except the original design in the basic game. And what means "comment it out" ? Delete this line ? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Not cheeky, no. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<i>"People who play and test these Builds and `Add-Ons` are quite important because they can discover some bugs and imperfections in the game"</i>
You'll get nothing but strong agreement from me on that, absolutely! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I'm sorry, I'm still not clear on what you mean in regards to Men of War.
1. Do you mean that the ships models/textures for ManoWar1, 2, and Manowar_Gub are inferior compared to all other ships in normal POTC (battleship, galleon, frigate, etc.)? Or are there some new Manowar models/texturings floating around?
2. Where was this new Portuguese man of war?

Oh, do you mean Rafe Bligh's Weathered MoW, the one that's black with yellow/orange gunstripes?

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->And what means "comment it out" ? Delete this line ?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Put two slashes in fornt of the line (//). The game will then ignore that line just as if you had deleted it.

Thanks, Inez.
Nathan, I think I expressed myself wrongly and not plainly previously. As I had a look into file ship_init.c there are 4 types of Manowars now. Manowar1, Manowar2, Manowar_gub and Weathered Manowar. I think the Manowar1, Manowar2 and Weathered Manowar have much better design than Manowar_gub. For that reason I think this Manowar_gub could be remove from the game completely now, because it looks much worse then all the three ones. And this is all. Maybe in the future could anybody make up some great new design too as a substitute for this Manowar_gub. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I continue. I can´t find this good dark Manowar. Was this ship removed from the game ? If yes, so why ? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

<img src="http://www.pix8.net/pro/pic/7888greeb/355397.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

I posted this some time ago but no one commented on it.
It is a tweak for the MoW Gub.
I just assumed that the community really didn't want another MoW skin.
I am one who personally doesn't believe in putting things up on ftp if no one asks for them.

Oh Petros, *please* load it up. If we haven't specifically asked for it it might be that things are just moving so fast here at the moment that it's hard to find time to try out all the wonderful new things immediately. So if it's on the ftp one can come back to it later.
I definitely do want it.

It looks really great. Please contact Nathan and Catalina directly as soon as possible once again. This ship certainly should be put into the game. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
Nathan, please, put this great ship into the Build. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Rad, I don't run the build, I just code for it. It's a community venture.
But Petros, you certainly have _my_ interest with that; and I ditto Inez's remarks--things move so fast that often even really great things get lost in the shuffle. :
