What do we need in a mod?

Yeah, in Akella's defence though, they never said they were going for historical accuracy, most just presumed they were.

How about a madagascar mod?

I am working on a Master's degree in History right now (yes, I am writing a paper on Piracy) and really agree with with many points in this forum.

If you were going to get real, here are a few suggestions for the modders:

1. Hangings
2. Scurvy and Venereal problems - crew can start dropping while you are sailing.

3. Real Ship of the Lines - 60 - 100 guns. They can be sent from the UK to apprehend you and then go back up to #1.

4. Real marooning. Perhaps an `add-on` game where you can survive on an island. Hunting, etc. and signalling passing ships...

5. Faces - I either want to use Jack Sparrow (fake) or WIlliam Kidd (real).

6. Really bad storms that destroy your ship - maybe even mysterious things - random whirlpools, giant squids, bermuda triangle. Add some sick humour.

7. Pitched battles at sea between large numbers of ships.

well, thats it for now. Thanks Modder's for all of your great ideas

A mod that disables aging will simply result in needing another mod that will give something to spend all that money on, otherwise you'll just get lots of money/land for no use of any of it. And that's no fun.

Pirates! is only slightly more historical than POTC in its map and wind direction. Most historical pirates were terrorists of their time, were frown upon, ended their careers in gallow, not just one year in jail. POTC has one thing going for it: it's more `simulation-like`. If a very high monthly crew wage and maintenance fee of ship are in place to keep me plundering so I can support my crew and ship, I can play POTC forever. Unfortunately POTC doesn't have enough things to spend all that money on, neither does Pirates!

I am going to have to mind my temper when I come here and read some of these quotes,
I wouldn't bother. In my experiences of modding games the people who say "It should be this" never actually make anything. The people who do make it....well they just make it, and don't bitch and spam forums <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I would like to see two things but the second is more of a cheat.

The first thing would be to make the land battles move along faster. The foot soldiers are so dang slow, especially when moving up hills in the terrain. Sometimes I actually quit the game because of this.

The second thing would be to have an option to make your crew gain happiness or morale while in port. It should probably make time pass as well, and make your character age faster. I know that is a drawback but the morale of the crew is annoying me more than him being an old fart. I thought about using a trainer and just editing a bunch of gold in but so far I haven't felt like cheating.

I apologize for being too dumb to create a mod by myself. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" /> I´d like a Mod where your starting character ages viewable with every year that passes by. Don´t know if this could be done.

I have been playing this game for week now. I want to first say that this game is really nice. Its very enjoyable to play, that said I feel like there are very important improvements that could be made. 1. Expand the Map, bring in the "American colonist" in the north and also add Portugal in the south. Perhaps make the game to include all of the New World. 2. Include more tradable goods such as coco, tobacco, cotton, & coffee. Something needs to be done to make trade more viable. 3. The crew should definitely be paid either monthly or yearly and that should take care of the problem of moral. They are always mutinying on me. 4. Make harder missions. There should be harder requirements to achieve the different ranks. Perhaps conquering an amount of ports or attacking a # of enemy ships. 5. There should be more resistance in finding lost cities of gold or buried treasure. For example you should always be exposed to Native hostiles whenever you land your ship to explore the land (these should especially be the case when you explore the Yucatan or South America). I haven't figured out as of yet what is the purpose for the items to impress the chief & the church. These should come in handy when your on land exploring, perhaps these items could lower the chance of attack or even better once attacked you could give these Items as presents in exchange of safe passage. 6. I really liked the Idea that --- brought up about having a special fleet that sets out against you from Europe to hunt you down once you become the most notorious pirate. 7. The protective armor, the balanced swords, the guns, & jewels, should only be available in the game as spoils once you defeat either pirates or merchants. The medicine pack should be available only as spoils if you defeat the Natives on the exploring attack idea in point 5. 8. There should be optional missions you could do for the church, mostly errands & delivering of provisions, perhaps even a rescue. Idk how feasible this is. I know if the map is expanded to include other countries that would be very difficult because animation needs to be made.
Thank You
Massimo

-I agree with the idea of controling your own town or even settling a new area yourself. Your own pirates haven perhaps where you can store ships, cargo, women, plunder, etc.

-Expand on some of the aspects of the game such as the raiding of towns by adding a greater depth to it. For example be able to purchase better guns for your army. Also expand on upgrades for your ships since i thought the upgrades didnt do that great of a job in upgrading or costing alot from your gold. Add more hidden treasures etc, give the ability to visit holy sites with rewards like a decrease in age, and give rewards for recieving certain ratings on certain dificulties.

-Personally i like the idea of allowing a no ageing concept im sure it would be hard to do and even less difficult to allow it to be turned on and off.

-You could also give in some aspects of being able to make loving to your wife in your pirate haven which could provide several interesting adult concepts. Out of fear of being banned i wont mention them but use your imagination. You could also have her have children that you could take care of and teach the ways of pirating entire story lines could be added with them. You could also add the ability to have more then one wife which you cant do currently *snaps fingers*.

Hamsters make great soup

I'm pretty content with the game. That said, the one feature I would really love to see is a simple "Take All" command for individual goods when plundering ships. I'm aware that you can take EVERYTHING... but I'd like to just right click on Sugar and take all of that commodity. It gets a bit old after a long session of conquests. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<!--`QuoteBegin-galeninjapan`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(galeninjapan)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->-Make a mod that makes the game a tad more `sim-like`. By this I mean micro managment type stuff.
I disagree 100% with this statement. Part of the FUN of this game is that I am not looking at Port Royale spreadsheets all day. Pirates! is not, nor ever will be, about micromanaging.

The old version of ship sighting would be nice: First, you see the sails, then the ship type and at last the flag it´s flying. That always used to be a source of suspense: is that sail a galleon laden with treasure or a pirate hunter? Can I risk attacking that merchantman even with my leaky sloop or is it a pirate who´ll snatch my whole booty?

Been playing for over a week now, and here's some things I wouldn't mind seeing in a mod:

- The option to double the rank requirements. Promotions are just too dang easy to get! In my last game I did two adventures from Curacao to Santa Marta and back, gained a few Spanish ships and got a promotion each adventure. And they weren't early ones either, the two up to Baron.

- `Sea-land` battles like the original. Nuf said. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

- As mentioned above, a way to take/sell everything of one comodity.

- Silver train & Silver Empire. Nuf said. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

- I'm still of two minds as to seeing ships on the main screen around you. The old way of total surprise was great, but when you desperetaly need a ship around to get food, the new way is good. So I'm of two minds, but do lean towards the old way. Have I confused you now? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I would really, really like tos ee two things:

1) A way to make a home base. Declare a port as the base, or make yoruself the captain for the port. Like taking over a city and turning it into a pirate haven. I don't know why, I dont even expect anything extra from it, but I just want a port that *I* use as a hombase. All the other pirates get one.

2) Change the fame system for rankings. Make it so you can earn fame for being notorious just as much as you can for being high ranked. At the moment, it feels as if, if you want to earn as high fame as you can, your FORCED to side with all 4 sides and earn ranks in all 4. Sorry, this just blows my mind. I feel penalized for trying to be a real pirate. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dp_nogd.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ng" border="0" alt="dp_nogd.gif" />

I have spent the past ten days with my butt in my computer chair (thank god for Christmas break) pillaging and plundering the Spanish Main in every way possible and have been trying to figure out what Mods I would like to suggest.
I think that at the end of a battle, we should have the option to sweep the surrounding area for floaters (barrels and sailors). If I'm short on crew and there's 20 Spaniards floating in the remains of the fast galleon I just sunk, I want them. Now, I'm not saying it should come without penalty. In reality, time would be a factor, and there could perhaps be a penalty of fighting two pirate hunters at once.
ALSO, one of the best things of POTC is being able to control multiple ships in combat, VIA flags. If that would be possible to implicate, it would be great, but that may be too much.
I remember towns holding a lot more money in the old game, too. Not to mention all the stuff (goods, luxuries, etc) that came with it. I've sacked Havana at Wealthy and gotten less than 10,000 gold and that's rediculous. That used to bring in `50-60` thousand easy, and it still should.
I miss the silver train, and an actual running treasure fleet, as well. I'm talking `10-20` treasure galleons but each protect by `2-3` war galleons.
The crew's combat doesn't seem to be as linked to my performance like it used to be. They're dying in droves while I'm doing some pretty fancy fencing, but it didn't used to be that way.
ALSO< if I convince the tribes or local pirates to hit a town, why can't I use those troops in battle, then split the prize? Why can't I decide how many groups to split my troops into? (Maybe have the different locations also have different numbers of groups. Better location, but fewer groups). The damage is done in percentages, and a unit can usually take `3-4` direct hits before they retreat, so I'd rather have `8-10` smaller groups then `4-5` large ones.
Perhaps we could add a feature that would force some of the enemy crew to join us. It could be linked to crew moral, and if you ever find yourself with more than half your crew being forced, it's a sure mutiny.
The advantage needs to be tweaked. It seems to have little effect, and how is it that I kick a guy in the gut, through the second floor railing, land beside him, pick him up, and he has the advantage? What rapier could stop a full cutlass charge? There was a reason Blackbeard survived so many rapier hits and took down so many men before he died. I know they were trying to prevent the old hack and slash from the original, but now it's a rapier hack and slash, and at least with a cutlass it was realistic.
These are just thoughts, and I'm by no means a modder (wish I was), and I have great respect for those of you who have that talent. Should you choose to implement any or all of these ideas, I will dance at your wedding.

More people in the taverns would be nice: I miss the shady character, the traveler, the mysterious stranger like in the old game.
Then i miss the diseases (malaria) and the goldmines found.
More gov. missions would be nice, and the top ten pirates should be possible to hold them for ransom.
And, off course, the silver train and `land-sea` battles.
What do you think about a mysterious ghostship?

A mod should be fun if you could:

*Change Character <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />
*Change Country <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
*Be able to have slaves <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />
*Be able to have more `combat-moves`(with the sword) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />
*You skip to do the dance, it´s automaticly <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

By the way, you can find a mod like this on: www.addictedtopirates.com

One thing that also bothered me in potc is that I'd like the game to be a little more strict about which countries you pledge allegiance to and what not. I mean, when I decided to work for the dutch and sunk a good 20 spanish ships, I snuck into San Juan and all that the govonor did was tell me that my actions would not go unpunished, and then proceed to tell me who they were at war with... they had a price of about 9,000 on my head and all I had to do to get a letter of marque was have some monk go and talk to the govonor of San Juan..

Seems kind of silly to me and I think I'd enjoy the game a lot more if rival nations did more to punish your actions and if changing colours was a much bigger deal than it is now.

How about a mod for average crew level/exeprience. Game could look at the average experience of your crew and perhaps might add a bit of speed, or perhaps load faster. I wouldn't want to make it real complex were you are micro managing. Just a thought.

Another idea might be a few more specialist to run the ship, and you might actual lose some of these when you engage in combat or divide the loot.

First post - great forum here:

I'm a huge Pirates fan from the old original Pirates, and I'm convinced Sid is a genius in figuring out how to make a game simple to play and yet fun and addictive. But there are, IMO, a few simple things that would greatly add to the game for me, in order of preference:

1. Have a lot more models for each category (plain, attractive, beautiful, etc.) of gov daughters, Make them more individual, so that I can;t get the same gal at several ports - if I want THAT babe, I have to make sure that I please THAT governor. Suddenly I need to stay friends with, say, France because I want that specific daughter. They really need to be more individual. This would be a huge improvememnt!

2. Some more characters so I don't have to track, say, Raymondo down over and over and over. I wouldn't let him get away when I had him at swordpoint with giving me just a piece of the map! Just so that I have some different henchmen to chase down.

3. Aging: I want to age, but I'd like a little more variety in the length of time my health stays good. Perhaps some options to allow me to stay in great health longer. Right now it seems that I just lose health too quickly for my age.

FWIW <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
