I have spent the past ten days with my butt in my computer chair (thank god for Christmas break) pillaging and plundering the Spanish Main in every way possible and have been trying to figure out what Mods I would like to suggest.
I think that at the end of a battle, we should have the option to sweep the surrounding area for floaters (barrels and sailors). If I'm short on crew and there's 20 Spaniards floating in the remains of the fast galleon I just sunk, I want them. Now, I'm not saying it should come without penalty. In reality, time would be a factor, and there could perhaps be a penalty of fighting two pirate hunters at once.
ALSO, one of the best things of POTC is being able to control multiple ships in combat, VIA flags. If that would be possible to implicate, it would be great, but that may be too much.
I remember towns holding a lot more money in the old game, too. Not to mention all the stuff (goods, luxuries, etc) that came with it. I've sacked Havana at Wealthy and gotten less than 10,000 gold and that's rediculous. That used to bring in `50-60` thousand easy, and it still should.
I miss the silver train, and an actual running treasure fleet, as well. I'm talking `10-20` treasure galleons but each protect by `2-3` war galleons.
The crew's combat doesn't seem to be as linked to my performance like it used to be. They're dying in droves while I'm doing some pretty fancy fencing, but it didn't used to be that way.
ALSO< if I convince the tribes or local pirates to hit a town, why can't I use those troops in battle, then split the prize? Why can't I decide how many groups to split my troops into? (Maybe have the different locations also have different numbers of groups. Better location, but fewer groups). The damage is done in percentages, and a unit can usually take `3-4` direct hits before they retreat, so I'd rather have `8-10` smaller groups then `4-5` large ones.
Perhaps we could add a feature that would force some of the enemy crew to join us. It could be linked to crew moral, and if you ever find yourself with more than half your crew being forced, it's a sure mutiny.
The advantage needs to be tweaked. It seems to have little effect, and how is it that I kick a guy in the gut, through the second floor railing, land beside him, pick him up, and he has the advantage? What rapier could stop a full cutlass charge? There was a reason Blackbeard survived so many rapier hits and took down so many men before he died. I know they were trying to prevent the old hack and slash from the original, but now it's a rapier hack and slash, and at least with a cutlass it was realistic.
These are just thoughts, and I'm by no means a modder (wish I was), and I have great respect for those of you who have that talent. Should you choose to implement any or all of these ideas, I will dance at your wedding.
