wealth points

WEALTH (24)
Fame points for wealth are earned based on how much land you've been granted,
and how many gold pieces you've managed to put away for yourself. Land grants
are given in addition to promotions if you've done particularly well, and as
alternatives to promotions once you have achieved the rank of Duke with any
country. They come in units of 50 acres. Gold flows into your pocket whenever
you divide up the plunder at the end of an expedition; you get a set percentage
of the total loot based on the difficulty level you're playing, unrelated to
how many men your loot is divided amongst.

I have yet to determine the formula for wealth, but I found so far that ending
with about 25000 gold and 20000 acres of land equals 20 wealth points. An exact
formula will be added once I figure it out or find somebody else who did.

I think it is way too easy to earn the full points for wealth... You can easily do it with land grants only... Actually, I feel that wealth should not really have max points at all, so that you'd have at least something to pursue when you have accomplished all the other quests...

That's a good idea, Wolfwood, maybe we can find a way to uncap that! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I don't like the scoring system. I don't like the scoring system in Civ3 either. If you want to be able to compare your game with others, then you have to play it a certain way. It takes away from the "open ended" and "role playing" factors, to show those points at the end of the game, and to make it so that there is only one way to get those points.

I am currently playing a game where I will not be able to finish as Governor. I eliminated 3 of the nations early, and only received 2 total promotions from those nations before took them out, so I am going to loose 22 promotion points because I chose to role play it and not suck up to all 4 nations. I also have a treasure map with no red X on it, and it's not just the red X that is missing. The treasure is not there, so I am going to be stuck at 4 of 9 on the buried treasures. I think I am going to be able to collect 3 million in gold before I quit this one. I think it's sad that even if I am able to get the 3 million, according to the game I will be less of a player because I didn't get those other points.

@bigchief: I agree with you there. It feels stupid to suck up at the Spanish just to get their promotions (and fame points) and then destroy all their towns like you wanted to do in the beginning...

Of course, no one says that you have to aim for the highest score in your games, but...

Still, I think uncapping the wealth score might help here. You could achieve the max score (and beyond) even if you did not perform all the quests and become a governor at the end.

I think the wealth score should be more along the lines of 1 fame point per 50,000 gold captured in your total career, + 1 fame point per 2,000 acres of land.

This would mean the `full-on` pirate who captured everything in sight, could still get a massive total score and ranking. EG: Capture 3,000,000 (3 mill in gold in your career) then it's 60 fame points just for gold.

Have you actually found a treasure from a map that had no red X?

I'm not talking about no coastal reference points. It's the red X that is missing. There is a coastal reference point on the map, and I have found every landmark shown on the map. I consider myself a good treasure hunter, too. I know how to use the telescope and compass, and I have found treasures, lost cities, Monty's hideout, and lost relatives with only one map piece. I have found many treasures with no coastal reference on them at all. I searched this one in `grid-like` search and rescue fashion.

Others have reported that there was never a treasure, if the red X was not there. If you are saying that you want to take a go at it, I'll be glad to send a save.

No, I have never tried a map without a X on it. I have never ran across one in my gaming. I do so enjoy repudiating claims that something is not where the red x is.

The buried treasure has always been the easiest locations to find... but I am not to keen to try a map without an X. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

If I actually did turn someone in for the ransom, does the money go to me? Or does it just go into the general pile to be split among the crew?
