VCO and PotC

As you all know, I know very little of coding, but as I played a little with replacing some of the .dll´s from PotC´s modules folder with those from VCO´s DLL folder last night, neither sea, ballsplash or geometry.dll worked, PotC wanted to debug when at sea. It seems, replacing the water textures actually worked, though.

VCO is actually a nice game with loads of houses, architecture, animals and custom models. I just dont like the multiplayer <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> It carries a similar file structure as to our PotC, although VCO is using both a starting and a core engine. But I wondered if anybody else had success with upgrading PotC with anything from VCO except from the success Razor and Kazeite had with their ships?

Razor put two ships from VCO into PotC and yo ho ho added some others. Unfortunately the quality of the VCO ships is much inferior to the PotC ones, so we can't really put many of them ingame. And they also lack the proper camera information for 1st person mode and no crew walk files. That's the only VCO stuff that's been used.

These VCO ships should also be put in PotC Build Mod but only then when its possible to add more stuff (wheel, bags, chests, ropes, masts, sails. etc) on deck properly (without any side-effects or bugs). <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I have scanned the VCO files with GM Viewer and I actually found several large (no, huge, really) islands, complete with towns/villages/harbours, smaller islands and props spread out all over them. Try looking at this:

The prop right in the middle is a stripped shipwreck.

I think this is a small harbour:

This is only one island, there are several others. I think its China...Could we use stuff like this?

Yeah, the coastline of China in VCO. I think the coastlines could be removed with the tool and we could keep the island(s). Remember, I dont know a thing about placing stuff in the archipelago.

Found this other scene, a town. All the buildings are copied and placed beneath the actual buildings upside down to make the illusion of water reflections.

Interesting. Perhaps we could somehow use some of it, though I don't really know how. Those VCO ships are underdetailed, especially their textures, so they can't really be used. Not sure about the land. Somebody'd need to experiment with it a bit. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Is me having any chance seeing any of you guys/pirates in VCO? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

BTW: This Chines/Japanese styled dragon-tubby-floating-brick ship <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> is interesting. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

No not really. I mean, I´ve played the game for a while, but I just wanted to sail around the world, exploring and stuff. But its a RPG or whatever its called, so you have to collect all kind of shit and do boring stuff before you can actually sail. And then you find out, there is only 3 kinds of ships with "upgrading" possibilities, so its getting quite boring. And the most important thing, there is no deck view on your ship and you sail on the worldmap with 200 miles pr hour. Very unrealistic. I guess I am a singleplayer kind of guy.

In short: Nope I just installed the files to play with them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
