Cat, I had a thought for your Sneaky Trader, by the way.

`X-Ray` specs, so you put them on and everyone turns into a skeleton model!

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> Sweeeeet, Petros!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" /> Devilishly clever, Alan! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

BTW, I took your "Bad Voysey" skin and put him into a package with the other skins I made - so he'll be available at the Pirate tailor...

Still testing to be sure everything's okay, when I know, I'll put it up for all to download. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I am working on a tutorial for putting new character skins into the tailor shops in PotC Build 12 for the WIKI... Should be finished soon. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Excellent work Petros <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I think that you might have created a skin that could persuade me to change from the Jack Sparrow one.

Thanks matey! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

That would be the effect I wanted.

Although you might not think it from the Spaniard avatar I use,
when in game, the first thing I do in QC is go buy the Pirate11 skin
which I use for most of the game.

When working on this skin which I called "Graybeard" I didn't want just
a fancy NPC but something I would use as players character!

I uploaded it to the FTP site.

It is "Graybeard.tga.tx" and it would have to be renamed Pirat11.tga.tx.

It could be used for Pirat10 as well but I think the game generates more
of those as NPCs (I could be wrong)

Anyway, Enjoy <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Hi everybody

Hi everybody, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I have a question, but I'm a total n00b: Can we make "hat locators" on a body like the sword and pistol ones, so you can buy different hats from the tailor (Or get given to by the govs or Isenbrandt), and then see it on your head? I mean, it may look stupid on some heads, but if it's possible... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

This may have been talked about before, I don't knw... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Hummm, no Drunken, I don't think it can be done. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Something to do with the skeleton of the model and the height, I think...

SFAIK there is no way to send geometry to characters (other than a single pistol and a single sword).

Cap'n Petros: Awesome! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" />

Drunken,
Your "hat locator" idea is precisely what I've been wanting to do for a long time. No problem to put a locator into the model, but I have no idea how to attatch a hat to it. And if Nathan says it's impossible...
However, Nathan, I think you said I could send a house to a locator in the jungle - then why not a hat to a charcater ? Can you explain?

Certainly worth trying (and NB I haven't so my above was purely conjecture).

I wonder what happens if you sendmessage to create geometry at a locator, but rather than sendmessage to a loc you send it to a character?

(And this might work for lights too).

Hell, worse that can happen is crash...

This is getting into entities and classes and layers and stuff, which I know next to nothing about...(rather than plain data objects).

I see a stumbling block with this already, tho - Think about it, we're not just tacking a hat onto the flat back of a character, we've got to fit it onto a head - which is 3D - AND which sometimes has hair or a bandana or no hair, or a ponytail, or whatever... So there would have to be a hat to fit correctly on EACH type of head - 3D modeled to fit ON the head, not just on top of it.

Frankly I think a parrot or monkey would be easier! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Not saying it can't be done (what do I know, LOL!), it would be VERY COOL to be able to do this! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> It's just going to be a big job and take some pretty clever programming...

That said, I believe the glove has been cast down. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/slap.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":slap" border="0" alt="slap.gif" /> Are we clever enough to do this? I think so... And therein lies a challenge we just can't resist... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> Modding... It's a sickness! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Ok I looked up the function in location_loader.c, like Nathan suggested in a different thread, and I see models are not really attached to locators, but to fixed positions. That' s why we can't have a "hat locator". But how about making the hat a "character" of it's own, which just happens to be "following" the character's head? Is it possible to have two characters in the same place ?
Oh, and Cat, of course you're right about that it would be difficult to make the hat fit onto the head. I'd be absolutely willing to settle for a parrot or a monkey on the shoulder if that was doable..
Or, for starters, just a skeleton monkey that follows you around - would that be too difficult? (The sneaky trader could be selling them for pets <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> )

I see it all the time, two characters in one place. You get some really bizarre combos that way. So adding a pet for your shoulder or a hat would be awesome.

Trouble would be making each character (hat and person) move together - head turns, hat turns, that kind of thing.

Uh oh, a pet rabid skeletal monkey? LOL!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> I can see it now, play as Bilgemunky and have a pet skeletal monkey tagging along behind you. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

That's pure brilliance Inez!

Sure. Add a hack in something that executes repeatedly per second (one of the AI postevents should do) to get char pos and then set the fakehat char to the exact same coords and angle.

Again: pure brilliance!

Hey, pets! Sure that's doable, you can use LAi_FollowEverywhere (or whatever the command is that Lucas uses) to make a `non-officer` follow you.

<snicker!> Maybe that was NATHAN I heard bubbling over! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

<!--`QuoteBegin-NathanKell`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(NathanKell)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Hmm. I wonder if there's a way to detect what animation a character is playing...[/quote]
There must be a function that MAKES the character play an animation - if we could hook into that, maybe we could synchronize the hat (or the monkey).

There is for type actor.
In LAi_Actor.c
LAi_ActorAnimation()
which calls LAi_tmpl_ani_PlayAnimation()
(Used in the fake_redmond_tavern scene).

I don't think it'd work on type player, but it might.

(So yeah, we could have the hat in actor mode and play an animation...but how would we know which animation the player's playing? Thus the need to detect current animation).
