ok, yesterday I got Age of pirates, in russian, and after a lot of work, got it running in english. this game is really great!
ok, depending on what nation you pick in the beggining, you start off in an island controlled by that nation. you start off with a weak little lugger, all the basics you need, etc.
the game is like POTC, but as we all know, its based off of the real carribean. this aspect is great, except the towns all have the same things in them. each layout is different, but each one has taverns, stores, shipyards, and occasionally banks and governor mansions. the banks are always closed for me, but I only have 5 hours of playtime, so I dont know. there are lots of houses, but they are all locked. maybe they will open up later. unfortunatly, there are no jungles, so each island has 1 town, (minus one exception) and only the small town. some islands even have no towns.
quests: maybe im doing something wrong, but quests are kinda weak. there is the occasional quest giver, who has an exclamation point over their head, and all others who will be assciated with that quest will have a question mark above their head. the quests I have found are only the random ones- transport merchant ship, transport passenger, transport goods, and find slaves (what you do is capture ships and make the crew become slaves and sell them to the quest giver, who requires a random amount). there is also letters of marque, which I have yet to do, and then the main quest. it starts off the second the game does, but then I have NO CLUE WHAT TO DO. I imagine it's time or level based, but I cant work on it anymore. I was hoping there would be side quests like in POTC, but I havent found any.
graphics: a step up from POTC, but you can totally tell they only updated the models and added new ones for the character deparment. ships look great. I got shot and it left a hole in my ship! sometimes the water comes up through the hull, but that's ok. the GUI takes up too much of the screen.
characters: you can choose better a dude and a lady(lol like how I worded that); stepsiblings. I cant find anywhere to buy character upgrades, just like the last game, pistols, swords, and spyglasses. when walking around town, sometimes character will "have conversations together" but wont talk. it still looks cool though. you can have LOTS of officers, and give them positions like fighter, medic, and carpenter.
dialogue/text: some text isnt translated, usually its only YES/NO though. in the abilities section, the last two abilities arent translated so I dont know what they do. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> also, the nonquest dialgue is repetitive. you cant speak with anyone who isnt in quests. all the they say is "buzz off" and you say goodbye. taverns suck too. you cant drink with anyone or gamble either. they ask you for a drink and you can only say no.
battles: totally sweet! as good as the last ones but with more features. the ship fights, I cant describe them, they are so cool, well the first few times. my men that actually fight (the soldiers) get wiped out really fast. swordplay has 4 different attacks, and runs pretty smoothly.
gameplay: TOO MANY CRASHES DURING LOAD SCREENS, and its laggy with 6 + ships on screen or battles during storms. other than that, lots of fun.
Leveling up: there are many more skills and abilities than before. some are in russian though <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
there is still a lot that I have yet to do, like get a squadron or take a colony, but what I say is this game rocks! its like build 30 for POTC. it is totally awesome, but not without flaws. if it had side missions, this would be the best game ever. everthing else, is really great. when the west version is released, I look forward to builds that will add the very few missing features. a bit of it I could do myself.

one question: I heard there is a 1.4 patch in russian. where can I find that and how can I get it working for english?
