The future of Sea Dogs 2

The truth is that there won’t be Sea Dogs 2. Actually, there will be much more than that.

Here we received more than 10.000 emails from fans of Sea Dogs and POTC with their wishes, desires and suggestions. So the team was doing the game previously known as Sea Dogs 2 using both ideas that they had to cut off from POTC and ideas from fans’ feedback. There was really lot of ideas. And it is surely game made for players and for fans of Sea Dogs.

The game has far overgrown the “Sea Dogs” title, so now it’s changed to “Age of Pirates” for worldwide release. In Russia, it will ship as “Corsairs 3” (Sea Dogs was Corsairs, and POTC was technically Corsairs 2).

Main news are: the game is huge. Real map of Caribbean. Five nations: English, Spanish, French, Dutch and Pirates... Basically, Age of Pirates is a totally `non-linear` “pirate RPG”, with absolute freedom of gameplay, tons of randomly generated quests, powerful trading system, developing NPC’s, controlling, managing and upgrading towns and forts... New fencing system. Advanced ship upgrades (hulls, masts, guns etc.). Smuggling. And much more. (For example, player can even sell prisoners he captured to slavery). As a result, the game will be different every time you play it. Also, there will be several multiplayer modes.

Release date is set for Q1 2005.

I really loved Sea Dogs and found PoTC to be an utter disappointment. Been considering reinstalling it though and giving the current build they have on this site a go. Don't know though. Loving Pirates! enough as is.

Those features definitely sound luscious and I really hope it can get pulled off well. I'm sure it will though because Akella has never really disappointed me, just Disney. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

P.S. - I especially like the thought of managing and updating towns. That's exactly the kind of feature I've been wanting in a pirate game such as this. Yepp I am a Sea Dogs fan as well. I can't wait to get that game in my hands hehe. Akella is a speciallist in creating pirate games. I hope they will make more and more and more cool pirate stuff.

Really glad its going in this direction, I love choosing my own paths especially in the open seas of the Caribbean. Even though I purchase several games each month I still find myself comparing every one of them to SD gameplay and POTC engine. Can't wait for multiplayer!
 
Sounds almost like a combination Sea Dogs, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Sid Meier's Pirates! all wrapped in one nice package. But I got a feeling you won't see it for another year at least from now.

Wow, that sounds amazing. I never played the orginal Sea Dogs, but I've heard the story about the S.D.2 and how it became POTC, I personally like POTC, so hearing that this new game will build upon S.D and POTC into a totally new and better game sounds like great news. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />
