The captain of the guard in the tavern, any point?

I'm aware the bar tender and the hot animated babe wont talk to you while he's bothering her, but do you gain anything else from defeating him besides a peak at some virtual cleavage and the usual `semi-useless` information?

Oh, and how many times do I need to be told that the treasure galleon is sailing? Seriously wench, I got it after the first 30 times.

They call him the "Annoying Captain" for a reason. It is not because he is bothering the barmaid, it's because he annoys the hell out me every time I see him. He only seems to be there when I need some information. I think the whole thing is stupid. It ranks right up there with pollution in Civ3. It is there for no purpose other than to aggrivate the player. If they gave you something for beating him, or made it so that he doesn't show up after you have defeated him the first time, that would be OK. I mean, if you are Duke of a nation, or any rank higher than Captain, he ought to step aside or be thrown in jail for insubordination.

There is a benefit: You get more sailors who want to join your crew if you beat the annoying captain.

The problem is that there has to be sailors in the tavern for this to happen (if there's no one there, there will not be _more_ of them either). This means that you have to beat the captain _before_ you hire the sailors.

However, you can go and check how many sailors want to go along with you before you fight the captain and then again after to see how much of an effect your fancy work with him had.

Yes, I know you get more men if you fight him first. I haven't tested it fully, but in my experience, it is always exactly 10 extra men each time. I still don't think it's worth the hassle. 10 men hardly ever makes a difference, and you can always go to the next town or pirate haven to get more, and the number of times you have to fight him is always way more than the number of times I am recruiting men.

I fight him, too. At the more difficult levels, it seems like I take less crew moral hits if I recruit more men at once than if I make lots of stops. Besides, as long as he doesn't have a rapier, he's a pretty easy win. I've only lost once, and there's no negative. Just walk back in and fight him again.

I always fight him, too. I mean, he's a lowly captain, and I'm a DUKE, darnit! How dare he call me a "whippersnapper"? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I use them as practice. Since you don't get thrown in jail or anything if you lose, these guys are good to work on combinations and feints.
