Stuck in Quest: Relations

zaro

Landlubber
I started a new game on Build 14 and am up to the quest where you have to go to the pirate island to track down Rheims. The problem is that I have hostile relations with the pirates (even when flying the Jolly Roger) and there are no alternative places to moor apart from the port and since I'm on a level 7 vessel I can't exactly blast my way into there. Any ideas? My reputation is unknown pirate so I doubt that is the problem.

If your ships is fast enough you could try to lure the pirate vessels away from port, sail away until you get the option to goto the world map then quick sail to the port and dock before the pirates have a chance to get back, if your ship is slow and the pirates catch up to you however, it be the locker for ya.

a class 7 vessel is probably the tartane. what i would do is try to land there several times. maybe you'll get lucky and there will be no pirates. i've had it happen on several occasions. beware though: they might be there on your way out, waiting for you just outside the port. i'm confident however, that you can get them, as long as you buy a gunboat or something at QC. something cheap. you can't board anything with a tartane (that has been disabled) but you can do it with a gunboat. if you check the beginning of my captain's log, you can read there how i took a sloop with a gunboat, with only very low skills. beware though that the citizens in the town might attack you. that's a known bug, although it doesn't always happen. good luck with it.

Of course the pirate island you need to get to is Quebradas Costillas, NOT Tortuga. There has been some confusion about that since the addition of the new islands, so I'm just making sure... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

you should still be able to sail into any of the pirate ports when you have hoisted the pirate flag in the relations menu without any problems. they won't attack you as long as you have the right flag.

AND you are not recognized for who you are. Which becomes harder as the game progresses. Especially as your fame level increases.

true, although i've only been recognised once in all the time i've played the game.

I've got the right island and I used the flag correctly. I'm still a nobody so that isn't affecting it. The problem is the enemy always recognises me. I have the same problem with the French being hostile while I fly a French flag.

Unfortunately the pirates and French don't agree <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Impressive. How far did you progress into the game then? Can't have been far. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

um... he's supposed to find rheims already... that's pretty far in my book, considering how long it took me to get there the first time. this might be one of those user-specific flukes, although i'm pretty sure i'll be wrong there.

Since being recognized depends mostly on your fame and your fame depends mostly on your wealth, progressing far into the main quest doesn't nescessarily also increase your chance of being recognized. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

i know that. you can still get your fame and personal wealth pretty high though before you get to that point.

Of course you can. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Just a thought but when are you changing your colours? is it before you get near to land? or is it once land and the enemy ships are in sight? I've noticed that changing colours next to neutral or friendly ships, makes these ships change to an enemy but changing colours next to an enemy ship wont make it friendly i.e. if you can see the ships they can see you.

Probably not whats happening with your game, but try going to sea view before reach QC changing the colours, going back to the world map and then sailing near to land and see if they're still enemies.

actually, changing your flag works at almost any time, except when you're already in battle, i think. although the other ships don't change their stance towards you on the radar, they do attack you after you hoist a hostile flag, depsite the fact that they might be shown as neutral.

You need to change your flag before entering 3D sailing mode. Changing flag after this does work from friendly to enemy, but not from enemy to friendly.

So that would have to be changed on land before leaving for QC? as on the world map I can't go into the character menu or is there a quick key to do this? only time I can access the character menu is on land or in 3d sail mode.

what you could try to do is go to 3D sailing view anywhere on the worldmap, change your flag, go back to the worldmap, and then continue to QC.

That's what I do. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
