Strange monks

ibutsu

Landlubber
When I was at the pirate settlement on Navis I decided to accept the holy cross from the strange monk, I understood the rules for this and that was fine. After finishing my business in Navis I continued on to Sao Jorge as per the main quest. In Sao Jorge I met another monk who is offering me a second item (same ones). Is this supposed to happen, do the items stack?

I think what is supposed to happen is you give the cross back to the second strange monk. However to remove the cross you need to talk to the first monk, I don't think the monks have been made to work how they are supposed to yet

Yeah, this is what I thought as well, which is why I was asking.

The idea is you get an item from the monk and when you want to save again, you have to give it back to another monk.
I'm not sure either if it works 100% as intended. Might have to look at that at some point. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

yeah that incompetent shitty monk system caused my save to corrupt and made me start over, not cool.

Corrupt even? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

i had 2 of the double HP crosses at the time, but i don't see how or why any item would EVER interfere with a save file, that's insane. is there anyway to fix my savegame??

Edit: ok so i'm gonna just give myself alot of money at the start so i can guy a bunch of good items from that pirate looking guy walking around in oxbay port at the beginning, as proper compensation for losing my save. however when i change the start money in the build settings, what a surprise..it doesn't work. what tedious bs do i have to do to give myself a proper amount of start money? i hate digging around in code/files yet i always end up doing it on games with big mods cause they can never just work right.

Cheats:
================================
These only work if ENABLE_CHEATMODE is on
at the bottom of PROGRAM\InternalSettings.h

Numpad 0 = Godmode
Numpad 1 = Officer 1 Fake Level-Up
Numpad 2 = Officer 2 Fake Level-Up
Numpad 3 = Officer 3 Fake Level-Up
Numpad 4 = Player Level-Up
Numpad 5 = Player Fake Level Up
Numpad 6 = + 100000 Gold and + 10000 Wealth
Numpad 7 = Cycle through reputations (increase/decrease reputation)
Numpad 9 = Trigger enemy attack (cheatmode not required)

And the item is supposed to disable saving, but not CORRUPT it! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

thanks. and there must be some bug with it then. i figured it would just be back at my last working save when i reloaded it but instead the screenshot above the save was blank, the text on the bottom was still there (Player etc), and it said "Unable to load". it happened after i had gotten a second cross so i would assume it has either something to do with owning 2 priest relics at once, or 2 of the same one..but it'd be worth looking into considering it can ruin a savegame.

Indeed; it'd be good to know especially if this problem can be replicated. But it's certainly something we DON'T want happening. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

I'll pickup two of the same ones at some point in my new game and see if it happens again. also i didn't realize it was supposed to disable my save before, and i was going through the game carrying a cross relic, it blocks the save button however you can just click on the savegame screenshot and save normally. keeping one relic doesn't seem to cause any problems though cause i had it from the start.

The dialog tries to explain to you that you can't save without actually using those words.
It's mentioning "going away and coming back to the archipelago" instead. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
And I don't think you're supposed to be able to carry two of those. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

You aren't but it seems that sometimes the monk's dialog bugs and gives you the dialog for not having a relic even when you have one, allowing you to get a second one. I corrupted my quicksave before by quicksaving too soon to a load screen before, the load seems to stop the quicksave making it unloadable. If taking two relics can cause this as well, I am happy I didn't take the second relic when I had the chance. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

anyone know what's up with killing the strange monks and releasing the evil spirits? seems to be some sort of sidequest.

Is that in the Abbey at Bridgetown (Greenford), No I don't but I did try that but died shortly after <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

That's intentional for the Maltese Knight Abbey, but it seems it accidentally applies to the relic-monks too.
Probably an easy fix, but needs to be done. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Hey guys, love the mod.

Started my second run of Lost Horizons, after my Fast Travel stopped working in my first game. I decided this time to skip the initial...everything, and start out on the beach. I started on the beach of Jamaica, and ran across a monk. I never answered their questions correctly in my first game, but this time chose the right response, and was given a choice of items.

I accepted the cross, and went along my way. Long story short, I've attempted to give the cross back to the monk in Oxbay (can't remember the correct name off the top of my head), and he just offered me another cross. No dialog to accept the original cross back.

I'm starting to freak out that I'm relying on Quicksaves, is there any way to remove the cross out of my inventory, or am I stuck?

In PROGRAM\console.c add three lines like this:
Code:
void ExecuteConsole()
{
ref pchar = GetMainCharacter();
if (!bSeaActive) ref lcn = &Locations[FindLocation(pchar.location)];
ref ch;
int i;
int limit;

TakeItemFromCharacter(pchar, "holycross1");
TakeItemFromCharacter(pchar, "holycross2");
TakeItemFromCharacter(pchar, "holycross3");
Now execute F12 after loading your savegame and the cross should be removed.

Hmm, odd.

That worked and removed the cross, but in the save game screen, it still tells me that I still have a Holy Cross, and cannot save.

Should I attempt to get another cross from a monk and try to deliver it?

This isn't a big deal, if my quicksave gets corrupted, the game is so much more fun now, I wouldn't mind starting over. I appreciate the help.

Ah! You're absolutely right; the carrying doesn't directly cause the issue.
It's an additional attribute that's given to the player.
To get rid of the whole mod that prevents you from saving, open PROGRAM\INTERFACE\save_load.c and remove this code:
Code:
		if (CheckAttribute(PMainCharacter,"NoSave.CarryRelic") == true && PMainCharacter.NoSave.CarryRelic != "none") {
bNightmareMode = true;
GameInterface.strings.NoSave = TranslateString("","You can't save while carrying a holy relic! Give it to a monk") + " " + PMainCharacter.NoSave.ReleaseMonkLocation + "."; // NK
EnableString("NoSave");
}
You should be able to save as usual now.
