Storm with cannonfire? Bug or Feature?

GreySaber

Landlubber
I get hit by cannon fire in storms, (And sometimes randomly without them.)

Is this a bug or a feature? (I'm meaning when no one is around to shoot at me.)

I know you get damage in storms but cannonfire is a bit odd. Especially if there's nobody around. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

It 'looks' like cannon fire. Esepcially since I get the exact same pattern of jumping water around the ship, and I have to set off fire drills wich seems odd, being as all the water flying around.

I was thinking you guys might have worked that in to make storms meaner or something.

Lightning strikes!!
it just seems like the animation of it has become lost i had noticed that in some bad thunderstorms that i got sound for a lightning strike and no lighting then a fire.

I don't ever recall actually seeing a bolt of lighting hit my ship.

It's a feature added since alpha 9 full I think Pieter and it's a bug LamAnd got it right, the effect don't kick in sometime and it's like you've been hit by a cannon but not, just the animation of the lightning that skip once in a while. Need to be look at.

I don't quite understand. You've always taken damage that way since at least build 12 when you were in a storm. Occasionally there'd be an explosion on your ship. The only difference now is that you hear the sound effect. All the other effects were there all along.

I do not remember ever encountering stormy weather when I wasn't on the open sea until recently, so that's probably new, so you're getting lightning striking. I would think it's obvious what is happening: you're in a storm, lightning is striking all around you, occasionally you take some damage. What else could it be?

I don't know how often the actual lightning effect shows hitting your ship. I have seen it hit my ship a couple of times, so I know it's there.

It is, it's just sometime the effect is missing and it's confusing people.

I'm not sure if it was a bug but today I used a tier 2 heavy fregatte and when it was destroyed by an other tier 2 ship, it blasted loudly as if a thunderbolt hit my ship it all the time.

I liked it though.

Although rare, sometimes fire reaches a ship's powder magazine and blows them up. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

That is very good and very interesting. To see a powerful ship go sink with big explosion is a good thing. Besides, how about to disable auto-loading if you die and enable a clone button? And then I can keep watching a battle without participating.

Back to topic, with aware I'm not using Ship Repair and Repair abilities because they're overpowered. I'd love to see them disabled for AIs and only enabled for NPCs.

The difference is that you now hear the explosion sounds, where before they were very low volume. When a ship sinks, it often uses explosion effects.

I had an interesting event yesterday. I captured a ship, and when I went back to my own ship there was an explosion on the captured ship, probably from a fire that was burning when I boarded. I was afraid the other ship was sinking, but it was just one explosion. It even killed 4 crewmen which left the captured ship a bit undermanned. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> But it was a really cool effect.

Oh... it's recommended to not use the brown interface; it might not be entirely up-to-date at the moment.

The solution to that is not to use the repair perks. You have to activate them manually; if you think they're overpowered, don't activate them and don't give yourself those perks. Since you can't used timed perks like this if you don't have them but an officer does, there shouldn't be any problems. The normal daily repair doesn't do much anyway, takes forever, and uses a lot of repair materials which you have to restock.

The picture shows one of the defense perks. Those have nothing to do with repair; they only limit the amount of damage you take. They also limit the amount of damage your opponent takes if he has that perk. That perk works against you most of the time, not for you.

Eventually I'll make it where using the repair perks is essential, because having the shipyard do major repairs will cost more than a new ship.

I always use only the brown interface. I never liked the blue one. If I run across a problem, it would take me at least 10 times the amount of time to fix it as it would take the original modder, who already knows what's been changed and how. Not to mention that I probably wouldn't upload the change. I've got enough of my own bugs to fix without worrying about stuff like this.

Pardon, I meant Ship Defense, not Ship Repair. It makes no sense. Ship defense negates damage and other things like you said which is, what I think, unfair. It makes the whole battle longer and unrealistic. Do you know that I had to increase Cannon Damage scale from 1.00 to 2.00 in Advanced Options? Anyways...I think that only NPCs should obtain them because they are always the weakest opponent against AIs. You'll mention it if you use a Galleon,Fregatte or especially a Lineship.

Repair perks are still not really nice. Restocking is not a problem and I do not like games where you have less things to do. In addition repair perk is just useful for AIs,not Non-Player-Combatants due of their simplemindedness

I suspect this is more related to the Development Resources; pirate_kk makes his changes to the blue interface and plans to update the brown one later. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

If you think the ship defense perks are overpowered, wait until you see what the ship upgrades mod does to the game. If you were able to somehow disable the upgrade stuff, you could go back to using normal cannon damage. There are people who want a ship to ship battle to take 4 hours of real time. I'm not one of them.

I don't understand. The NPC *is* an AI and vice versa. I've seen companion ship captains use the repair perk if they have it, and if they have repair materials which they usually don't.

guy... the damage from lightning strikes has been there since the stock game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> but you only actually got hit when you really did get hit. that's why a big ship took way more damage from lightning strikes than a small one, because it was simply hit more often. it does make sense that a ship attracts lightning though, with the mods.
