Alright. Just played around a while ago... And remembered couple of things from couple of games.

I know, that I like to see statistics from my progress of game. How many people I've killed, how many ships I've sunken... And now remembered steam achievements features. And Similar features from the game Borderlands. So here is my Idea: Achievement-Missions.

I imagine this as separate page, something like captain's journal. Where all statistics are written. You press button, to "show achievements" and there is shown list, similar to skill list on character screen. here is couple of my examples of achievements.
  • First Kill — Kill 1 people
    • Murderer — Kill 50 people
      • Slayer — Kill 250 people
  • Fencer — Kill 50 people with melee
    • Soldier — Kill 250 people with melee
      • Blade Dancer — Kill 500 people with melee
  • Shooter — Kill 50 people with ranged
    • Sharp Shooter — Kill 250 people with ranged
      • Sniper — Kill 500 people with ranged
  • Wealthy Man — have 10000 or more gold at least once
    • Rich Man — have 100000 or more gold at least once
      • Richest Man — have 1000000 or more gold at least once

Now imagine:
I'm playing PotC, new game just started. killed one dude with my blade. Then log in the corner of the screen writes something like
"'First Kill' unlocked for killing one people. You've earned 100 XP".

After a while, I run around, might be slaying entire town on my own with my blade... Killed more 49 people with my blade. Log shows 2 message
"'Murderer' unlocked for killing 50 people. You've earned 1000 XP".
"'Fencer' unlocked for killing 50 people with melee. You've earned 1000 XP".

Then I press F2, and in achievements menu I see 3 Icons: First Kill, Murderer, Fencer.

That will be directly connected with statistics. Which simply require some variables, that are changed on certain events.

I'd really like this Idea... If this will be desired to do, I'm the volunteer for making Icons for this mod...

Discussion? Ideas? Proposals?

Would it be possible to incorperate them into a randomly generated top 10 leage table of other pirates/captains in the arcipelago? i.e. Most Kills:, Most goods transported:, Wealthiest:

I know that sounds a bit tricky, but I would imagine getting your players stats would be the hardest thing. The values for the other captains can be randomly generated and it would give more of a competitive element to the game :onya
 
Yeah... And I'd like this:
  • Saint — beat cursed ship
    • Holed — beat 2 cursed ships
      • Chosen One — beat 3 cursed ships
 
I like it but I dont know about the kills for the ranged weapons... Sure have an achievement for ranged weapons but more like 1, 20, 50 instead of 1, 250, 500. As it isnt the easiest to kill someone ranged (normally its the first shot in the battle ;))
 
I think it should be doable to add a counter for kills.
Would be interesting to see, sure. Especially when also shown per nationality.
The main complication would be to make the interface, I reckon.
I don't much care about unlockable achievements, but that might be fun for some.
And if we've got the counter in place, it should also be doable to add that. :yes

I like the Idea here but there we are talking about 30 Global Counters being called alot. This will surly hit processing power hard?
 
not really, this doesn't call an modeling loading or location reloading... Simply something like: when you kill someone --> kills= kills +1.

Don't sure if that would be exactly that, but it really won't take more process than sea battle...
 
Personally I would be interested in just seeing statistics on my playing,
eg. ship sink/captured per nation and characters killed.
That'd make me happy already. Sure we can add counters for pretty much everything,
but that'd be going a bit overboard. And somebody'd need to code the interface to see all this too.
 
I would enjoy to see how well Im going as well. I think we should at least get the basic system up and running :yes
 
Agree with basics, tho, still working with interface images for possible achievements.
