Sound Issue

I think I was mistaken about being fired upon when using my personal colors. I got fired upon when using British, and then one time I must have tried personal colors and got fired upon by the French ships and thought it was the fort. I replayed from the beginning and left under my own colors and only the French ships fired at me. So I think your code is working as expected.

I like the idea of spawning some British ships for the French to battle. It seems more realistic that there would be some British ships in the harbor to defend the port at the time. Plus, it would make it more like the video clip that gets played. Also, it might have the useful side-effect of keeping the French busy while your lugger sneaks away.

I'm not sure how the game works. If an enemy is engaged and you show up on the scene, will they make you the primary target? Or will they finish with who they were fighting first and then come after you? I know in many games that the player you are controlling always gets priority for AI enemies no matter how many other AI enemies may have been attacking them first.
 
I'm changing my story.

The fort sometimes fires on me even when I try to use a neutral or friendly color.

I have no explanation for why that happens, but because I'm a goof, I've been trying different ways to escape the initial port without getting sunk.

I can only get away under Port-you-geez (I can never remember how to spell that) colors. Yet, sometimes when I do the same routine to set my flags to them, I get attacked by the fort.

So far, I haven't been able to figure out why it happens sometimes, and sometimes not.
 
the flag check to see if the flag you are flying matches your nationality could be something about it.
i never have issues getting out of port. but i always either fast travel to Bridgetown or goes to world map as fast as can be done.

try to have a flag up that the French and Brits are neutral or better too p with stock PotC nation relations that would be Portuguese if i remember right.

i have changing relations on so i have to check to see which flag to fly.
 
The French ships are not supposed to be firing upon you either.
If you start the game on all the standard settings, you should be able to just sail away without a sinlge shot being fired in your direction.
 
that is a gamble when you like the changing nation relations mod..
But i never get shot at by the fort. Once or twice ive had too make some rather spectacular manuvering to get out with the 3 Ships chasing me but i could just have kept my trigger happy fingers away from fire cannon!!
But there really need to be 2 british corvette or frigates there norhing bigger they should get their arses pummeled by he french and provide you with some nice scenari too sail out of port in.

Now I have another unusual thing happening. When I left Barbados/Oxbay the first place I went was Grenada/Conceicao. I repaired my ship and did some errands.

I decided to talk to the tavern owner about escorting a ship. I've found that there are a bunch of guys that want to be escorted to Conceicao. Well, that's easy enough. All I have to do is walk out of the city gates and there I see a happy ship owner thanking me for escorting him to port. I get experience and about $1000.

As I read over this, I'm not sure I'm being clear. I'm getting missions to escort people to the island that I'm already on. OK. Now it's clear.
 
That last post got me to thinking...

I'm not just complaining about the problems in the game. I know you guys have put in a lot of effort to fix bugs, add new features, and make huge improvement to this game. I think it's telling that in 2009 I'm playing a game from 2003. I sure as hell wouldn't be playing the out of box game without the modifications that people on this forum have made.

A fix for that escort quest is underway; I think a fix is probably included in pirate_kk's code files, but those have problems of their own. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
