SoFS Models

I was looking through the Secret of Far Seas mod for AoP, looking at the ship models specifically, and I came to wonder if they had all been added to the build mod? One in particular caught my eye, it's called Brig1/ in the SoFS resources/models/ships/ folder and is a fine looking ship to be sure. But I didn't see it at all in build 13 final or build 14 alpha 7 plus. Has it been added to Alpha 8?

She's a real beauty, be a shame to let her dry rot <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":|" border="0" alt="mellow.gif" />

dare to share a screenshot of it, if there is one, doctor? not from the PotC of course, but from the other game

These screens are from GMViewer, I don't have the mod installed in AoP. For some reason I can't fathom, I am unable to load both the hull texture and the deck texture at once. In any case I don't like the textures much, but I do like the brig model. Reminds me of what the HMS Sophie would've been like. It's much different from the brigs in game.

thats the stock AoP Brig. i can upload her to my filefront account.

I like this one more:

Is it? Imagine my embarassment <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

I wonder why they have it in their release then.. In any case, is it combined with the build? Or any plans to add it?

I like your brig too, the brigs in-game look too much like tubs for my taste.

I just remembered, wasn't the Sophie dutch-built?

Fellow <a href="http://www.chucksshipmodels.com/Ship%20Models%2002/HMS%20Sophie/hms_sophie.htm" target="_blank">here</a> has made a model of the Sophie, Looks a lot like yours

the HMS Sophie is so beautifull ^^ i have a 16-gun brig in my game that i named HMS Sophie, but it definitely doesnt look like the real Sophie.....

For Neptune, doctor! Your description of the PotC brigs couldnt be more exact.....wash tubs! with a smaller tub above the deck....

and indeed, the HMS Sophie is a captured dutch ship.....as beautifull as our matey's one ^^

Wait until you see the other models for brigs in SofS, there are 3 different brig models, 2 of them very new.

If I get a chance, I'll throw up screenies of them in-game.

This particulair model is already ingame in build 14a8. I even made a Royal Navy skin of her. The models are called FastBrig in the game files if I am correct.

Ok then, I'll try getting Alpha 8 working again. It seems to be disagreable to running on my computer.

We have not added any SoFS ships.
Actually, I never even had a look at that mod.
How's the translation process coming along?

Anyway, there is a model supposed to be the HMS Sophie in Build 14 Alpha 8.
It is the "SloopBrig" ("Brig rigged Sloop").

Ok, ok....dont need to give me more reasons to download B14A8....

Well let me put it differently, What is involved in adding a ship to the game?

They're already in .GM format with textures and everything, if it isn't too complicated or disallowed for some reason I may just undertake to do it myself.

Well, I am working on the translation right now. Going through files slowly but surely and trying to make the quests and sentences make solid sense, while maintaining the emotion of the stories. I'm working with some of the gents over on thier forums to get translations of the untranslatable words (most of them are due to misspellings in the original russian).

Hopefully the work I'm doing, and any other volunteers will make the english version of the mod shine.

So you are translating it to be a mod for AoP, or to add it to the build mod?

Do I have this right: Add a ship to game,

Copy the .gm models to resources/models/ships/{shipname}
Copy the textures to resources/textures/ships/

Add the ship info to ships_init.c where

refShip.Name
refShip.SName

are the same as the directory name the ship models are in, as {shipname} above and

refShip.All

Is the general sort of ship it is based of some sort of 'base class'?

Its already a mod of AoP. I'm just busy getting it translated to grammatically correct english.

And I still haven't had a chance to nab a screenie of the two new Brig's, but they really are there.

As to adding the ship, that sounds right, but I would have to check the tuts to be sure and there is yet another step to getting it added to the shipyards.

Ah, so there is a tutorial for adding ships. I looked through the tools, tip, and tutorials and couldn't find one that dealt with the details of how to actually add a ship to the game. Do you have a link available?

There is this <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?showtopic=7516&hl=Ship+editing" target="_blank">thread</a>, but I know there was another more complete tutorial by Seb or one of the other modelers of yore.

I'll keep looking and if I find the one I remember, I'll toss the link up.

HaH! Here is where one of the shipwright tutorials exists. Visit the <a href="http://robotsdontbleed.com/wacko/wakka.php?wakka=Tutorials&v=28e" target="_blank">potcWiki</a> for a nice collection of info, tutorials and other useful bits.
