sneak into town ... ... ... ...

Since I have posted 2 different messages on the tech forum without getting any response whatsoever <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> I'm hoping any of you can share his/her experience with me...

I have experienced several problems while playing pirates. After installing the omega drivers everything is working fine except for one thing: sneaking into town is very slow. The rest of the game runs fine which is what I would expect -> 3.4 Ghz computer and a Radeon 8600 XT card. I saw several other posts mentioning a similar problem. Does everybody have this problem? Is it a bug?

I think it's probably an intentional design decision to force a slow pace on the player, because people seem to notice the same slow pace on that sequence, whether they're using `lower-end` or `high-end` computers. At first I thought it was just a very inefficient AI routine running for the guards, but people with much faster computers than mine (1 gHz) are seeing the same thing.

Someone on the design team should be keelhauled, if forcing that slow movement was intentional. If it's not, and just a bug of some kind, then maybe we'll see it fixed in a future patch.

The guards move slowly, and you're trying to avoid them, so you have to move slowly too... If you wish to "run" (not very fast either, I'm afraid), you can do so by holding your shift key down - but this does limit your view as the camera angle closes in while you do run - that increases the probability that you'll be discovered while you're sneaking around... And as it was this way during betatesting, it's probably an intentional thing that the sneaking is slow...

Yeah, I figured it was intentional.

The thing is... I've played other "sneaking" games like the Thief series, and a few other RPG's with a full 3D interface like Neverwinter Nights where you sneak through town as a thief character. It doesn't have to feel like you're moving through molasses to sneak past a guard. Something is wrong with the basic timing here. Whoever designed this part of the game, hasn't played the classic "sneaking" games. This just feels frustrating, not fun!

I turned off evrything in the video settings an swordplay on boarding ships increased in speed considerably as well as the dance'n thing, haven't tried sneak'n yet, hopefully it speeds it up a bit <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

There may be a way to tweak that setting... I'm no coder (honest!), but I'll bet you could find it if you knew where to look! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Ok, so just before you decide to sneak into town you have tune down all your video setting to get 'normal' playing speed <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

At least now I'm reassured that everybody has this problem <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I can also say that this forum is much more active then the tech forum

<!--`QuoteBegin-jasper`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jasper)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I can also say that this forum is much more active then the tech forum[/quote]Yes, I'll bet. There's not a lot of "techies" around right now, so there's not been a lot of help in that direction... We've all been pretty much helping each other as we can. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->it was this way during betatesting<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
so let me ask this, was it brought to the attention of the developers back then that sneaking was perceived to be too slow? if not, why not? and if so, what did they say as that could determine if we'll see any modification in a patch.

also, and i'm not certain on this, but someone over on the parrot forums is building a trainer that does zillions of things and i think speeding this up is one of them. can't go check now, boss is lurking about <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

During betatesting, we reported just about everything you might imagine. Usually we got no real answers other than "resolved" or "duplicate" (if we made a report that had been reported before us by someone else), and the real discussion was had on the forums... I know there were quite a few who talked about the sneaking part as being their least favorite thing to do in the game, but I don't recall anyone having a REAL problem with it...

It IS slow, but it adds to the tension and suspense... I don't mind it so much... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I think there are trainers being built all over, heh... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> It's been just a matter of time as far as their release. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Been trainers here for over a month... and it has been posted in these fourms at least twice that I saw.. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<a href="http://www.addictedtopirates.com/trainers.php" target="_blank">http://www.addictedtopirates.com/trainers.php</a>

I have not used any of these, do not know how they work, but.. there they are..

Joe, look in the "Master Navigator" announcement thread at the top of the forum... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
