Seriously,

I find Pirates! to be a very enjoyable fun game, nothing more nothing less, it does what it says on the tin.

They just need to get the FSAA ATi issue sorted for my enjoyment to be complete.

If you think back to the original Pirates!, how was it like? Do you remember using the mouse, or doing anything differently from the current remake? Why didn't anybody complained THAT one felt `console-ish` in 17 bloody years? As for repetition, it's not unlike the original, since that one had mostly the same repetition. On the contrary, this one has LESS repetition than the '87 classic.

And about the beta testing period and testers, there are so many people complaining about their work, but having no idea how was the game like back then. Well, I'm sorry the game disappointed you BahBah - I'm glad that I'm not you. I love the game. ALOT! It find it to be just plain fun. And when I hit the point that I have burned out on it after a day or two, I give it a few days rest. Then I find the urge to play it all over again. That's the beauty of it. This game, while it may not get daily attention, it WILL remain on my hard drive for a long long time.

Sure, I got complaints and gripes, but nothing the keeps me from playing it.

And I hope for your sake, that the modders do something to the game to make you enjoy it.
 
after seeing the comments to my original post, I think I can refine my comments to -- how much better this game COULD/SHOULD have been, especially given the author and the lineage.

After reading most of the boards and posts, it is clear that the majority of players agree. Which raises the question, do you think there are 'closet' fraxis employees that post responses to negative posts and criticisms to try and average out the comments and ratings? I wonder.

I am still enjoying the game despite it's shortcomings -- it will just not be the classic that the original pirates was. Perhaps the console market (which I really think more and more guided the development) will see it differently.

And...I certainly didn't mean to slight the beta testers. It is remarkably unbuggy and kudos for that -- but as an average gameplayer there are so many obvious things I would have suggested being fixed from a gameplay interface perspective --- I guess there is no guarantee that fraxis listened to the feedback.

Another conspiracy theory? Maybe there are 'closet' Ascaron employees trying to get everyone to buy Port Royale 2 instead? I wonder...

well, you know...i never questioned the motives of posters on boards -- pretty naiive i suppose. But it just hit me that -- if i just spent a few million dollars developing a game, i might not be averse to posting positive comments about the game under a non company id. companies manipulate public opinion all the time and there is no reason to think they WOULDNT do it on boards.

With that said, you are probably right and we all just have different opinions.
 
let hope they fix the whole Reymond (how ever u spell it) issue

at least change it for diffrent relatives cause i don't want to chase after the same dude 20 diffrent times. after the 5th time u'd think our "nobel hero" would just realize he always had the map pieces and just lock him up until he gave them all up
 
I'll tell you what. I've never played a Pirates! game before, and I'm enjoying this immensly.

On the other hand, I agree with the original poster on a few things. Stuff like being able to name your own `save-games` bloody well SHOULD have been in there from the `get-go`, and things like being able to see your own, and other ship damage should, at the very least, be an option. Personally I don't mind only being able to see damage reflected on your ship, but the more options, the more easy it would be to make Pirates a more enjoyable experience for more people. Maybe some kind of `in-game` purchasable item to unlock the ability? I dunno.

Woe to ye who said that "a real captain wouldn't be able to see the damage as a number". It's about fun, or so Sid claims, anyway.

As for the long time Pirates fans who're getting bored early with the new game. Is it possible that it's maybe just TOO similar to the game of yore and that you're getting bored because you've played most of it before?

Can't say that Pirates! has been "consolified" Wait till you see the Xbox version if you want to see what "consolified" Pirates! would be like. Apparently it has `POWER-UPS`! But modders can't do anything that's hard coded, like AI and game mechanism. So it really depends on how moddable this game is and how much the developers want it to be.

I havn't had any trouble with the compass, the taller point is always north.


Aside from that I can't say your wrong. It's a good game, I was just dissappointed when I got it since every site gave it such a great rating (think GS gave it 9.2?) and reviews. Not the mention the hype there was all around it that usually signifies a great game...its good but I certainly dont think great. I guess since so many people were eagerly waiting its release they felt compelled to give it such a high rating.

Pirates was given the same score as half life 2...now I have played both of these through and through and half life 2 just blew me away like few games ever have. I still cant see how they were given the same scores, if half life 2 was any longer I would have needed to set a timer to remind me I was hungry and needed to eat.

I believe my favorite thing about Pirates is that it doesn't take long to get to the action. If I have 15 or 20 minutes in the middle of my day to spare I can always jump right in and play that full time.

Perhaps a day you will realise thaht your dear president don't care about people (especially people of poor contry with no defense) and only care about the money he can earn with war.

Why your great country fighting for fredom (laugh) doesn't make war again china or sud corea which have far more destruction weapon than irak or koweit ? because they don't have petrol to steal and they have enough military defense to kick you off.

If it were not for French like Lafayette, the British Redcoats would have kicked the American's butt in the Independence War.

If the Americans despise the French so much, they should consider tearing down the Statue of Liberty. After all, it was the French Gustave Eiffel who built it and it was France who gave it to the US in the first place.

It's a game dude. I hate the Spanish... and I always attack their towns and ships. I love to sack Panama! Doesn't mean I have any feelings towards the Spanish in real life.

I'm not saying that my feelings towards the French are any different than your feelings are towards the US. Just saying that this is a game and I'm sure that Cybrslydr was probably not referring to any "real world" feelings.
 
And besides it would appear that the French government was against war in Iraq only because they wanted to keep making money in corrupt oil for food deals. By the way I don't hate France. Being that my blood is 25% French. Governments are not the same as the people. I may not like the French government, but I have nothing against the people.
