Ruby ring and diamond necklace

I was thinking about this the other day and I haven't been able to come up with an answer by reading the manual or by observation. Does anyone know if there is a difference if you give a daughter a ruby ring or a diamond necklace? If not it would simply be cheaper never to buy the necklace, just always give a ruby ring and replace it ASAP.

I think it depends on what you have in your inventory -- they always seem to ask for what I have. So it depends on what you can get from the Traveller. I don;t know if there are any algorithms that affect what he offers.

It doesn't seem to matter as far as the relationship thing goes. I get 10 out of 10 even I give the ring instead of the necklace. It may make a difference in what she gives you or tells you next, though. I think having a diamond necklace adds to the special itmes total. I have decided to get one, one time in the game, and then refuse to buy one after that.

Well I know that you are only offered the purchase of the diamond necklace after you already have the ruby ring. The daughter will ask for the necklace if you have it or the ring if you don't. I haven't noticed any difference in the effects if you give her one or the other, so I wonder why you should even bother buying the necklace.

Buy the necklace for what it adds to your final score. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Dat's right,some even been known te carry a calculater <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I would imagine that the Diamond Necklace probably betters your chance of getting a gift from her instead of information. I tend to get alot of gifts from the ladies and I give out the Necklace alot as well as get Super Woos when dancing. Not sure if this is correct or not though. Just a theory I have.

As far as the final score goes, just wait to buy the necklace until right before you retire. Otaku_hanzo, you may be right. I have gotten presents after giving them the ring and the necklace, but I'm not sure if it is more frequent with the necklace. I will try to pay more attention in the future. During my next career I will record the outcomes from ruby and necklace presents. By the way, what kind of otaku are you? Video game? manga/comics? etc... My wife calls me a video game otaku all the time. As you probably deduced, my wife is Japanese.

Well, I like all of those mentioned above, but video games and RPGs are my obsession. Funny thing is, my name is not meant as the slang word otaku, but rather comes from a pen and paper RPG I play based on the Legend Of The Five Rings collectible card game. It's a feudal japan setting and one of the clans is the Unicorn Clan which are the horsemen, particularly the Otaku family, which my character belongs to. And since your wife is japanese, then you doubtlessly know that family name comes first in Japan followed by actual name. The Hanzo is based off Hattori Hanzo, a famous ninja from the feudal era.

Anyways, sorry for the long explanation. I tend to get carried away. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

I see. I never even thought of the Otaku clan. That's what I get for jumping to conclusions. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I take it you are not married in real life. Trust me, the dancing doesn't stop after you get married.

In the game it's nice that you can still dance with her can still get info.

Back on subject.....the ruby ring will give you info like Baron Raymondo, or Marquis Montablan, the Diamond Necklace will give you better info like a contract on a criminal or a Indian treasure map. If you've already found a lot of the above, the necklace may only give you info on Raymondo etc.
