Ima big Roleplayer me self ! Neverwinter Nights was a great roleplaying game! And Guild Wars is also a good game to RP in, and roleplaying in SWAT like games is also fun, talking in "commands" to each other!

So any Roleplayers ??

I ment RP, Role play, "play a role" ..

Playing IC (In Character), you roleplay your character. Example;

Playing Guild Wars, you make a fighter, you make a story, choose wether he is evil, good or neutral, then you give him some opinions, like" Rangers are weak, they rather run from battle than fighting" .. And therefore, he dont like rangers, which could get rather fun if a ranger is in the group.
Then you find someone to Rp with.

Got the idea .. ?
 
I never wrote RPG , I wrote " great roleplaying game", but thats not the same as an RPG, that means that its great to roleplay in ..
 
"Role play" and "Role playing game" is to different things !

Role play, play a role ! = RP

Role playing game, Is a game with roleplay, and, to play a "role playing game" (RPG) you dont have to roleplay. Role playing games are often just a game where you play in a world and you can choose classes etc.

The game on our forum here is more like a strategy game than a RPG. In real roleplaying games, you create your own character, its background and its likes and dislikes and then play this "alter ago" through various events put on your way by the GM (gamemaster).

I used to play such games, but when you are in the working life, there's no time for such things anymore... Not even the computer RPGs out there...
 
Roleplaying is an act, a thing one does. It's done a lot here, when people pretend to be pirates, speak like pirates, etc. A role one is playing.

Roleplaying games are set up to encourage that act, but don't always succeed; then again, any game or activity may be a chance for role-playing (i.e. RPing a pacifist in Deus Ex, or a likes-to-fight-on-surface sub skipper in Silent Hunter).

RPGs have mutated into a thing about dice and stats; but their original and still main purpose is to make one think one's in another's shoes, and /act/ like it.
An interactive story, starring _you_.

I play on a few RP-oriented Neverwinter Nights servers from time to time, and am in the long process of building a PW of my own.

Morrowind is wonderful as well. I took a year or two to warm up to it, but (like PotC) once the modding community took hold of it they really brought it to life.

I'm not huge into sci-fi, but I played regularly on an RP-exclusive Freelancer server for quite a while.

I've just started playing occasionally on a RPing MUD/MOO. Right now I'm pretty luke-warm on the whole text-based gaming thing, but I'm giving it a fair shake.

I always play PotC as an RPG as well. I'm never interested in racking up as many kills as possible or creating a godly death fleet; I play PotC to create the remotely believable life of a pirate. I stick with my small-but-quick schooner for as long as possible (because it's what my pirate-of-the-era would sail), taking on risky foes that require quick thinking and sound tactics. I only do things in-game that my character would actually do, and (call me a huge nerd) I daydream up backstories for my officers and such. The way I play PotC isn't much different than any other typical RPG to me.

I have no idea if any of these games count as official role-playing-play-a-role games for the purposes of this thread, but they're all RPGs that I enjoy.
 
I RP an Imperial Officer in SW Galaxies, who harasses overt rebel players while On Leave... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> My profession is a Bounty Hunter, so I do a little RPing while on the hunt for my player jedi target (I only hunt rebels). It's a fun game to RP in, even with the ocaasional "oh-im-so-l33t-i-roxxor" idiot... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Well I don't know how if Runescape is good and enjoyable to play a role in... If you play it, you should know! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> But it is a RPG (Role Playing Game)

By the way, for the still confused, I think I have another definition of roleplaying: immersing yourself in the game world totally, and fully taking on the role and personality of the character.
