Retexturing questions

Hi there, i'm mostly into texturing... like it alot...
Messing with CoAS, i stumbled with a problem... i've seen the ships textures and if "small", they are highly detailed, lightning, shadows, volume, time worn items... real artwork going on there, any attempt to modify them was "unsatisfactory" so the next step was changing the textures resolution to a bigger one, say 200%, but the Convertor would'nt allow me to place a higer res texture into the game... is there another way to do it ? or, as i have seen in Flight Simulator X, "splitting" a texture in two, for instance ?
Also, if any skinner would know of a good resources site ? so far i could only find real nice wood and some fabric textures, but that's about it...
Thanks in advance...

I know there is a maximum texture size that the TX Converter can handle.

Well, depends on which compression you take. On the highest settings, none of your texture will decrease. Choosing the lowest however, CAN affect this.

I thought 2048x2048 was the biggest texture size the TX Converter could handle or so?

You mean PPI ?

Yep, that's the thing...

So far, the best i've got was resizing the image to 500%, editing and when "finished", resizing back to 2048, you lose detail but results are better since you handle objects without messing them up... i'll post some screens tonight

Back on it... last try i think... mostly a question to modellers... when you UV Map a model... are you limited to 1 texture ? or could i have a 2048x1024 for the deck only, another equally sized for the stern, another for details and so on ?...

Edit: BTW, i forgot to post screens, still a wip, mostly a test and personal use...

I know of several PotC ship models that use dozens of textures for various parts, so that should work.
In fact, stock game ships use a different texture for the deck and masts and such anyway.
