Retextured Douwesen

Thomas the Terror

Mad Pirate
Storm Modder
Pirate Legend
I found that the textures of the orginal Douwesen didn't look dutch. It was almost all in Tudor style, but the dutch didn't use tudor that much, the most houses were totally made of bricks, gray or red. So I retextured Douwesen to something more Dutch. Now Cayman uses the orginal Douwesen. I also changed the port locators of Douwesen, now the ships ly along the jetty.

Some houses:

More houses:

New store:

New Manor:

And last but not least:

Ships along the Jetty:

Now for download on the FTP in Thomas the Terror files.

Ahh! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
Thomas, I praise you. It really looks Dutch now (and notice how I dont even MENTION the Red Light District in Amsterdam! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> )

Downloading as I write this! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Be careful when installing this. Use WinMerge on the code files. The code files are likely to not be readily compatible with your game version.

To elaborate on that: The only code change needed is to change "town_Douwesen" to "town_Cayman" in PROGRAM\Locations\init\Cayman.c. If you don't do this, Cayman will look Dutch as well. Which is not gamekilling, of course, but it's better to use the original Douwesen somewhere as well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
BTW: A quest location version of Cayman town is used in the First Contact quest, so that one should also be changed in the same way. File PROGRAM\Locations\init\QuestLocations.c.

Thx <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

i've got to hand it to you, that looks SWEET! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

First let me start off by saying...... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />
Thats amazing, with the brick textures, and the ships by the jetty, simply AWESOME!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />
Methinks I have a hankering to spend more time with the dutch. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

There is a problem with ships on the jetty... sometimes, when a ship is as big or bigger than a galleon, it comes THROUGH the dock!

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
Well, that just makes for a more interesting game I suppose. Either that or someone needs a new helmsman. I can hear it now....
Helmsman- "Sorry, Cap'n, I brought it up juat a WEE bit close to the dock."
Capn- "A WEE BIT!?!?! ARE YE BLIND?!?!"

It's pretty bad on galleons and larger ships. The stern of the ship goes where you can walk, so you can walk through the ship. That'd need fixing. Any volunteers? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/user_comment.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="user_comment.gif" />

On that note - were such large ships actually moored at the jetty? I mean, there were no means to dig out a deep enough harbour right up at the shore, I believe. I was under the impresion that large ships stayed well off shore and any loading and unloading was handled by boat. But do correct me if I´m wrong.

I can imagine the big ships indeed WOULD be moored off shore. Unfortunately trying to come up with some code to define what ships are moored where, depending on size, would probably be ridiculously complicated and not something we can do at the moment. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" />

it's very cool but, it didn't look like that at that age, no you didn't put it in reverse and sailed backward to the dock
