Requirements ?

DJ1

Master Mariner
Have we seen any official requirements yet?

could some betatesters tell us one which machines it run well and under which resolutions.

I have an ATI 9500 pro, 1 GB RAM, AMD 1.6ghz cpu over clocked to 2.0 Ghz. It ran fine under the 1024x768. I never messed much with some of the higher resolutions. I would occasionally get a bit of frame rate lag when I would attack a ship that had an escort ship with it, but it was minimal.

Here's a link to the EXCELLENT Pirates! FAQ compiled by Civrules: <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/`ftopic1846-0`.php" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net/`ftopic1846-0`.php</a>

And here are my system specs: AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1.53gHz and 512 RAM. Nvidia Quadro4 700 XGL vid card with 64MB RAM. I played at 1024x768 too. No real lag to speak of except for an occasional bump like what Cap'n Toast describes - pretty minimal stuff.

thanx for the info...

The game will run great on my computer and most others computers as well then.

Pirates 2 doesnt seem to be very demanding.

Sounds good, i just hope i don't encounter any problems on my old P4 at 1.6 ghz 512 Ram, ATI Radeon 7000 64 meg video card, i've been waiting too long for this game...

I think Atari picked betatesters with an eye towards getting a full range of systems - so that they could find out whether there were any problems BEFORE the release - so hopefully people all over with all different kinds of systems will be able to play this without too much trouble. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Wow great! That's pretty much my current system and I plan on doing a mini upgrade soon so that will be sweet! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

What is the game like as far as graphical options? Does it have many advanced type options?

Sorry, but I hate these kind of threads that hope that they developers release a product that isnt as visually appealing as it could be. I totaly disagree with this bs. I am poor and I dont have a fast system (AMD 2500 oc to 2340 @ 155fsb because I have a cheap ecs motherboard that wont run at 166mhz. gerforce 4600 ive owned for 2 1/2 years).

But I would much rather see games that I like push the edge of tech to give me a reason to upgrade. I would hate it to see developers "dummie down" their games so they play better on old hardware. On the other hand, its great to see `half-life` 2 scale so well on old hardware (no i dont own the game).

It would be much better for developers to take advantage of the latest technological magic and give us common folks an appreciation of our infrequent hardware upgrades.

Does anyone know if pirates actually utilizes dx9 code or is it just printed for marketing reasons? The reason being is that i want to hold off playing pirates untill I can see it in all its glory. I dont play games that much, and the games I have in the past have often been on old hardware (tribes 2 on voodoo 1 for instance), but I really want pirates to be special and Im willing to wait to give me motivation to become crafty and come up with some booty to buy a dx9 card if pirates uses these features.

I realize the developers have been hush hush about the dx8 vs dx9 path because they dont want to turn anybody off the game.

donjn says that you can expect a fps bellow 25 if you use the chasecam.

I had in mind to use that cam and therefor I am a little worried cause donjn has AMD 3000+, 1GB RAM and GF 6800.

I only have AMD 2500+ and GF4ti4200. I would like to here if others have the same problems with the chasecam as donjn.

Don't try to decide on whether or not you will use the chase cam until you are playing the game. There are a few instances where it's handy, but aside from the novelty factor of it, the other view is better.

My specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1024mb DDR
Soundblaster Live! 5.1 Digital
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb

Game runs fluid on 1600*1200*32, even with chasecam.

Just a sidenote: I recently discovered that there's a world of difference in using an onboard audio device and a "loose" audio device, like a Soundblaster. The games actually run up to 25% faster! Don't use onboard audio, it only consumes huge chunks of your processing power.

Good tip, <b>Cpt. StarEye, </b>regarding onboard audio (OR VIDEO)! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
